I have a good friend that started a Facebook group with the goal of getting all members to 100 push ups.
So I'd like to see what guys here would be interested in the Odd Todd 100 Push up challenge?
Here's how it will work:
-We start with 30 standard push ups. Done correctly, no quick ones, no one armed, no double lindys...standard push up.
-Each day we as a group will increase our number by 1 push up.
-In one month, we will be at 60 push ups, at 2 months 90...and just a week or so into our third month, 100.
-The idea is to keep doing this in the interest of getting in shape.
-Once we have reached the 100 push up goal, we will start the sit-up challenge. Then mayeb squat challenge.
-Pictures, video and written testimonials are encouraged. We want to see everyone's progress.
-You can do sets if that is what you prefer (3 X 10, 3 X 20, 3 X 30, etc)
WHO IS IN!!!??!? We're going to get the men of the board in shape!! We'll get the group going Monday. If you choose to join later, you must join at the existing number of push ups.
I'm going to start my journey with an attempt to see what my current max is.
I kinda think I could do 100 right now if forced to. I promise to give you the honest number after I try tomorrow. It's been a while since I did one, so I may be utterly full of shit.
I got to 20 and knew damn well I'd be lucky to see 50 let alone 100. So I just did my 30 and stopped. Honestly I think I could have made 50, but I didn't wanna feel that pain and have it stop me from doing 31 tomorrow.
I would be in for this if the starting point was 23. I know I used to be able to do way more than 23 but recent events (namely me trying some pushups 2 minutes ago) have proven to me that not doing pushups every day for long periods of time can lead to severe self-over-estimation about how many pushups one can actually do.
I'm going to say that doing push ups would currently put too much strain on my knee, so I'm not allowed to do them, but if I were allowed, I could totally do ... one.
Let the girls have their makeup threads. Let us have our pushup threads. Done.
Exception: If you're a tomboy and you can do man style pushups, where you're not on your knees and you go all the way down, squishing your tatas flat into the ground .. then you're in, as far as I'm concerned.
I will be doing mine with a coworker at quitting time...in my dress pants!!
Send in some photos or video as we go.
Also, have your own starting point. Figure out what you can handle first. We'll celebrate everyone's 100 as they happen. The point is for all of us to look like Hugh Jackman by the end of the year.

Ok I totally missed (until just now) that the rules say it was ok to do these in more than one set. I was wondering how the hell anyone was ever going to be able to do 100 in one set. I did 23 Saturday and 24 yesterday. Now I need a day off but will do 31 tomorrow. I've never been a serious worker-outer, but someone I know once told me that you should always take a rest day between working-out days. He gave me a long-winded explanation of why that is that I stopped listening to after a while and I don't know if that's just BS or not, but the way my muscles feel today I'm kinda thinking that's the way I'm going to need to do this.
I'm up to 40, but I do them in my martial arts class only. Our goal, coincindentally, is one hundred.
Definition of a push up in class is...allowing your body to sort of free fall to the ground and push yourself up to full arm extention. We do them on our fists. Not that much more difficult then regular push ups, but s'pose to help with punches or something.
I've watched intructers and a few other students in the school do them on their knuckles. I can barely get into that position before crumbling to the ground.
They aren't acid washed, they're the real deal. I just sweat acid Actually, I've had em for about 8 years. Like Seinfeld described how men keep underwear forever, I'm gonna keep em until they disintegrate in the wind.
And of course you're turned on, Ginny. I'm awesome. I taught NPH everything he knows... err, except the homo thing. And this guy taught me:
ok, Squid said he felt this was bouncing around...and he's right.
The original idea was to add a push up a day. That's rough and I figured that out quickly.
This is the plan I am using right now. 6 Weeks of training to get to 100 consecutive push ups. Again, if you have a plan, stick to that. Its fun just hearing about how everyone is doing this.
AND on the site you'll see a link for 200 sit ups...could that be next?
That site is saying use rest days, and indicates that most of us could start at 'week three.' Which means those of us that were able to do greater than 25 pushups on the first try should be able to do the 100 in just 3 weeks.
I tend to agree that 5 sets will make me stronger than just adding +1 every day. No question about it in my mind.
"To the anon: Is that really the person you're proud to be?"
Pot meet kettle, seriously you need to seek professional help. I would think someone that has spouted off some of the nastiest posts would not throw stones but alas I am not surprised.
Because it makes message boards interesting? Seriously, you know everyone loves it. And I mean everyone in general, on every board I've ever seen. Right?
But to your thread - good luck on the push ups. The only kind I like are the orange sherbet ones, and if Fred Flintstone is printed on it, even better. Yes, I'm old.
I have no issue with being called fat. I've got about 20 +/- lbs. to loose, so it's not entirely inaccurate. To me, being called fat is like being called white. It's a zero sum joke. Or what Todd would call "whatevery."
Yeah, when I'm nasty it's generally deserved and I do it as my fake internet name. I've also apologized as my fake name when that was warranted.
See, that makes it easier to hold me accountable, or say, to hate me for it ever after if you wanna. You know where to look for that dick Squid.
Presumably you're a coward who pretends to be nice to me somewhere else on this board. I think that sucks.
And no, I don't think everyone loves the drama at all. When someone with a name engages in it and folks have someone they think will listen (that maybe cares about their online reputation a little), they freely share that they wish it would stop.
So the pretend authority with which you are speaking about 'how it is' is nonsense - you're full of doo doo.
Likes to call people fat, resents licensed attorneys, is full of shit? I don't think this is anyone posting with a name right now, Squid. I think you took care of this one years ago and he still hates you for it. Just a theory.
5! 5 real push ups! Them my elbow made a funny noise, and I'm going back to practicing walking on my hands. How about a "How far can you walk on your hands" challenge next?
Following the advice of Pee Jay's site, I did no pushups today.
I did do my situps routine. I'm 9 for 9 days on that. I promised myself I'd go 21 without stopping.
It's the ancient "Abs of Steel" video from the early 90s with Tamilee whomever. I strangely love her. The routine has restore my stomach from weak to strong probably 8 times since the early 90s, and it's comforting like my mother's cooking somehow.
ok, so I did fine...but there's a lot of pain right now. I will say, its great doing them here with my coworker because we both feel pressured to do them.
Did my sets according to week 3, day 1, third column on that site. Except I didn't hit 20 on my last set (the maxing set). Did all the first four, then failed at 12 on the fifth set.
Did 37 without too much trouble last night. (a little pause at 30, then pounded out the last 7) I think up to 50, give or take, will be pretty easy. But beyond 50 or 60... that's gonna separate the men from the boys
I'm still hanging on. Sort of. I did my 37 yesterday but had to do it in two sets with 1 min in between. I'm pretty sure I can get to 50 but if I do it's pretty much assured it's going to have to be done using two sets as well. So might as well enroll me in the boys club now.
But if I can keep up with doing 50 every other day I figure that'll be way good for me, and certainly better than the 0 I would have been doing if it hadn't been for this thread.
I'm still doing this. I've skipped a day here and there but I'm remaining fairly consistant. Yesterday I did 3 sets with one minute in between. 40, 25, 15. My arms were wet spaghetti noodles afterwards.
Wow. I didn't realize how much I missed you all until I read this thread. I love it! Mev, I personally thought when I was watching that you have a nice ass. Totally don't give me the finger, I mean it! And Potato said he might flake out - pun intended? And the way you guys are turning this into a competition instead of a challenge is so you guys. And Todd, I love you. And girls, we need a separate crunch thread. I am trying to get into a wedding dress.
I have been doing this and I am still on schedule in the program. Week 2 Day 2 today. Still get fatigued at the end, but no more soreness. In total I think I am doing sets that = 65 pushups.
Yesterday I did four sets with 2 minute rests in between. 50, 25, 20, and 10, which means I did 100 for the first time...ever. After picking myself up off the floor I let out a "woohoo!" and got REALLY excited and pumped up...until I realized that's the most outwardly excited I've been about something in a long time. Then I made a pizza and sat down and watched TV. I thought about going and buying a case of beer but I thought that might defeat the purpose....
Hah. I guess that does read poorly. Rephrase: The first time I have done AT LEAST 100.
I am sad to report that I'm only up to 2 pullups, however. If I use true form 2 is as many as I can do. If I cheat I can do several more. My goal is 20.
To be fair, I'm kinda light which I suppose makes them easier (or thats what my "heavier" friends say anyways.) I have noticed my arms getting bigger and that makes me happy.
And as for CG, I have an update on that. Stay tuned!
