Amber, the first dress is way better for a formal. I am positive that dress looks amazing on you. Shoes? No. not those. What other options do you have?
whatever you wear, make sure it's something you can swim in. So when the boat hits an iceberg, that lands everyone in the water and Leo tells you to save yourself and go make babies and stuff, you'll be ready.
Ok fashion challenged peeps, not everything has to be matchy matchy. Gold sandals with a gold tone (yellow) dress, boresville! I like the idea of letting the shoes be a bit of surprise. I say go for it. The mother of the bride look maybe for some, but Amber rock out and don't let these mother of the bride wannabeeeeees sway ya.
Anonny, it isn't the color so much as the style. I agree that shoes with a color pop are a lot of cool fun. I just wouldn't wear such a formal dress with such casual sandals (even as cute as they are!).
Yes, cruise formals can be slightly less "formal" than other formals. From what I noticed on the ONE other cruise I've been on, there will be a wide range of formalness. Some people will wear prom type dresses while others will wear nice Sunday dresses.
Since I've there are so many varying opinions of which is better, I'm going to wear the one I want to Besides, I won't know anyone there besides Gary and he could care less what I wear.
The winna is choice #2 since several people said the shoes were not the best choice for #1 and I don't want to shell out cash for more shoes. My cute black sandals will go great with #2. (I'll try to show you a pic, Lea; I haven't forgotten.) #2 is also wrinkle-proof - an added bonus.
#1 is a leftover bridesmaid dress from my wedding. One of my bridesmaids was not able to attend and I had bought the dress, so it's been hanging in my closet waiting for a reason to be worn. Too bad I don't have any good shoes to go with it - the shoes the girls wore in my wedding killed their feet.
Thanks for all the input. I never thought my dress selection would spark such debate
ETA Mevin - Corn dogs? I think not. Have you ever cruised before? Their fancy dinners are...well...fancy...and you order whatever you want. Can't choose between the steak and the lobster? Get em both! Everything's already paid for!

Not necessarily for this cruise, but a lot of those dresses can be dyed. If you dyed it black, it would make a really cute little black cocktail dress and you would probably get a lot more use out of it. I wouldn't try dying it yourself, but ask the place where you bought it.
Well, I was kidding about the corn dogs. But the word "fancy" is pretty relative. (And you are sorta wearing flip flops )
But I've been to formal cruises, where some guys wore basketball shoes and booze cruises, where a lot of guys wore suits and ties. So unless there's a specific dress code, some people aren't going to change out of their fishing duds.

I'm pretty sure that is actually a tacky badly reproduced blow up of the set of Titanic. (no lie). So that just reaffirms the fact that amber should totally wear a wetsuit under her dress.
Oh my goodness that is too funny, that's totally the backdrop of the movie set, hah!
The one cruise I went on, the formal dinner was all over the board too. We had people dressed up in black tie tux and evening gowns vs. dinner jackets with no tie vs jeans. I think you are safe with any dress you would wear to a nice restaurant for dinner to be honest. Besides, you're on a cruise, wear what is comfortable!
