A Philadelphia school teacher is under investigation for allegedly throwing a stapler that struck a student in the head. The mother of a 15-year-old boy said she took him to The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia where he received four stitches in his forehead Friday afternoon.
School district spokesman Fernando Gallard confirms that the male teacher threw the stapler when his class became unruly. Gallard said the stapler bounced off a wall and struck the student.
The mother said the incident happened as her son was passing the classroom and stopped at the door to talk with a friend.
Gallard declined to name the teacher but said he has been reassigned to an administrative office pending a "full investigation."
I could never excuse that kind of uncontrolled outburst from a teacher. Do I understand where they're coming from? Hell, yeah! Do I accept their lack of self control? Hell NO!
I have been pushed so far, and wanted to do some serious smack-downs or tantrum type stuff, but I'm an ADULT setting an EXAMPLE. You can't solve anything by throwing stuff, hurting people, or punching walls, no matter how much you feel like doing it at the time. It's wrong, and not even deep down, but in the freaking SHALLOWS, you know it.
This teacher is obviously not cut out to teach. Ever.
I graduated with a girl who taught and coached the school swim team part time. Her and the head coach took the girls out of town for a meet, left the team of girls (junior high...maybe thirteen/fourteen) alone in a strange town in a strange rooming house, and went out drinking for several hours. She never taught again.
