When I worked at Honeywell several years ago, there was a girl there who used to get Mood polish. It was polish that changed (like a mood ring) in respect to temperature.
It was pretty cool! I remember she once had her nails done one color and her tips done another, and it looked pink and red (respectively). But when she dunked her hands in ice water, her nails were white and the tips blue!
I have been told I am not supposed to get pedicures with all the walking I am doing because I need my callouses, but it's bumming me out and I may cave.
Wow. You are a freak of nature, Anny. I purr like a walrus during a good massage.
And Arwen, the walk isn't until SEPTEMBER. I figure if I get one in July I'll be ok? I'll still have some 14-18 mile training walks that month. I dunno.
I was the same way until I got a gift certificate for a present and decided to take the plunge. It was SO GOOD. I fell asleep on the table, I've never felt so relaxed in my entire life. I'm addicted to massages now. I try to get a pedicure come summertime with sandal and beach season. I do my own manicures, my nails grow like weeds.
It's kind of like getting laid for the first time. You are all nakey and don't know what to do. Then you start to overthink it. But then you actually start getting into it and you think "This is the best thing ever and I'd like to do more of it as soon as possible."
I'm actually with Anny. I've done massage and really don't find it relaxing to pay some stranger to paw on me. I'd consider therapeutic massage, though. At least when they are elbowing you in the spine, you don't feel like a weirdo for not enjoying it. I also have zero interest in pedicures. I find feet disgusting, and getting a pedicure in a salon doesn't seem that far removed from paying somebody to lick my anus in public. I would have to pay in exact change, because I don't want somebody that has been handling feet all day to handle my credit card.
That said, you could get your toenails done and and a bit of exfoliating, Ginny. Just don't get your callouses sanded. This may be TMI, but when I was training for the marathon, I rubbed anti-perspirant between my toes the evening before long runs. Before the run, I rubbed on Body Glide. No blisters, and my callouses were really minimal once I found the right shoes and socks. Also, don't cut your nails before a long training day, cut them after. Otherwise, they can cut into your skin when your feet swell.
