It looks salvagable to me. It looks like the brick structure held up well. They can save it, I bet. In the end, this fire will just add to the lore.

Thanks, MeMe.

I put that on my FB status. Makes me very sad. I had many a fabulous drunken time at the GA Theatre.

Are you kidding me? I can't even count how many times I passed out in the boxwoods running along the side of the building!

$5 to see Widespread Panic. In a venue that size. Too many others to name. Movie nights. So many great times there.

Even if they rebuild, it won't be the same. My shoes should stick to the floor juuust so in there.

RIP Original GATH.

MeMe, were you the anon uga grad who posted here before?

I read about it this morning on ajc. Sad. I bet they'll rebuild it. And maybe REM and the B 52's can come for a re-dedication happy.gif

Are those bands even around anymore? I haven't heard anything about them for probably 10 years, it seems.

Amber - I think posted something on the GA Guidestones thread and mentioned UGA, but I'm pretty sure it had my name on it.

Zhivago - what a fun word to say - yeah, they're still around. On the oldies tours, I guess. Most of REM still have homes in Athens. Great little town - not quite so much since Starbucks and all that crap violated it, but still a pretty cool music and arts scene. I miss that.

Yeah, Amber showed me around Athens a few years ago. I really liked it a lot! Very nice place, from what I saw.
