Recently, the FDA has been issuing warnings about an IV anti-nausea medication (phenergan) that can cause people to lose a hand if it's injected wrong.
There was a case recently where a 19 year old girl was awarded $7,000,000 for losing her hand due to this.
Of course - this turned into a debate about whether or not we would willingly give up a hand for $7,000,000.
The first thing that I thought of was not being able to type. Room mate said "they HAVE to have 1 handed keyboards."
I kind of want one of those. I think being able to type one handed would kick ass.
I'm still on the fence... I like my hands... though my room mate was so far off the fence - saying he would do it - that he was practically in the neighbors living room.
Interesting. I never had an issue with it. For a while after high school, I had a hard time dealing with stress and I couldn't keep food down. They gave me a shot of that stuff (in the fleshy part of my rump), and then a pill form of it to take at home. It just make me uber-sleepy. I had an hour to eat before I'd fall asleep wherever I was. Never had any other problems with it.
FYI, these kinds of cases almost always settle to avoid appeal (for a much lesser amount) or are reduced by the judge. She will probably end up with a few hundred thousand to keep after medical, lawyers, etc. Worth losing your hand? I'd say not.
Ruby - the cases have occurred when it's injected improperly. If the needle goes too far and gets into an artery - the acidic medicine will build up in the hand and destroy nerves.
I took the pill form of it in high school for migraines. I still have all three of my hands.
There's this drug that can be given to me to help prevent bone metastasis, BUT, there's a very small chance that it will MAKE YOU JAW ROT AWAY/DISSOVE!!!!!!!!
WTF!?
Anyway, for 14 mil, I might consider giving a couple fingers off m left hand. Done and done. Where do I sign up!?
.
But to see a firefly means it reminds me something I lost in the past time or imagine some hope in the future,so shimmery bug light is adequate for me.

I would gladly chop off my right big toe for free, the stupid thing has been hurting for 2 weeks.
The last time it got damaged was when a cab ran over it way back in 2004.
So, the cab ran over my foot and then I tripped and fell down some cement stairs that led up to our house in Honolulu. I spent 3 days in bed because I couldn't walk.
Good times.
