I had a prescription for Welbutrin to stop smoking back in the day. (It's called Zyban now, I think)
It didn't make me depressed or suicidal, it made me a zombie. Not happy, not sad, not anything. It was like watching someone elses life on TV. Weird.
And I still wanted to smoke.
I guess it doesn't work for everyone.
I dunno, Amy. I was kinda surprised he didn't get a lot more flack after the way he lambasted Jo (and, pretty much, every parent who posts about their kids on this Board) on her thread.
AFT, I chose not to lambast. I often post on here about things my children (esp. Carson) have experienced and I continue to choose to believe they don't actually ever do anything wrong.
I had a prescription for Chantix. I didn't like it. It made the cigarettes (during the first week when you can still smoke) taste bad. And then I read about nightmares and violent sleepwalking and night terrors, and decided I had enough problems all on my own.
I suppose it would never be possible that the tobacco industry might make sure any scary side effects were publicized as much as possible? Honestly, I hate to sound all conspiracy-theorish, but considering I was a two pack a day smoker $7 per day, for 20 years, that isn't chump change.
ETA - that there is in fact a black box warning and I'm a dope.

Don't people commit suicide on many drugs? Advil? Painkillers? Xanax? Prozac? No matter what the drug? I hardly believe a drug could make a non-suicidal person commit suicide.
Correlation? Maybe. Causation? Nope.
Something I can't comprehend
Something so complex and
Couched in its equation
So dense that light cannot escape from
In the dark your brain glows
And it goes
Way um way, way um way um
I know you're a supra genius
Will you shoot the blue earth down?
In the space station
Polishing the ray gun
You say correllation is not causation
Chantix is the most successful external smoking cessation approach known- therapy, etc all included and is still at 14% success rate. Gives you an idea of how tough an addiction smoking really is. Chantix and Zyban are dealing with how your brain is wired but folks don't acknowledge the power of it and CONTINUE TO DRINK ALCOHOL. Yes, there are folks who have intense dreams etc but 98% of the official Chantix suicides involved alcohol. If you are taking a drug which is helping you to rewire your f'n brain, please DON'T DRINK!!
Actually, My compy used to sign me in automatically whenever I turned it on. Now it doesn't.
My pictures don't download right either!
I just bought this heap of junk in 2003, why doesn't it work?!!
some anti-depressants side effects include suicidal thoughts and I believe Ritalin is another drug lists it as well.
Our cig packs have ugly pictures of diseased lungs and hearts and other smoke-related ugliness right on the packs along with clear cautions as warnings.
