Bird Folk

Anyone know who this guy would be? We met him in the Target parking lot last night and he didn't introduce himself. He just stood there. So I took a pic with my phone. I thought from a distance he looked like a turkey vulture... then we drove closer (I didn't want to stand by him, he was big) and he had webbed feet.

That's not a good pic.

If you don't know anything about this guy, have you seen any odd animals lately?

Is it wrong that I think that hemorrhoid face duck is cute?

Cool.
Thanks DJ!

They're interesting birds. Huge wingspan. They're pretty much just wing, neck, and beak.

What's the difference between an egret and a white heron? Or are those different names for the same bird?

An egret is a heron. Same birdie. Different name.

Well, there is some slight difference according to some info, something about feathers, but from what I know they're interchangeable. I just call them Herons.

Just curious, because we only have the blue heron variety here.

My father calls them shypokes, which Wikipedia is leading me to believe is a bastardization of "shitepokes."

I think they're so cool looking. We have tons of white varieties around here but my parents have the big blue ones and huge sandhill cranes in Montana/Yellowstone. I never seem to get a good pic of them but I shot this little guy at our man-made lake while back.
