It's annoying when the mom purposely draws attention to it though, as if they had an axe to grind. I've seen that more than once.

Also, a bit of a tangent, but there are places that are appropriate to bring babies to, and places that are not.

Please don't breast feed while I'm trying to enjoy my fancy dinner, or at the bar.

I think you have to lean towards - hey, its always ok - to avoid establishing any rules for it.

That said its like anything - people should use some discretion and common sense.

I think there's a backlash against the idea of ANY public breastfeeding, which is bad INMHO.

I nursed all of my girls and never did it at a table in a restaurant. The only reason why I never did it at a restaurant was because I'd make sure to feed them before we went. When my SIL and I went bridesmaid dress shopping with a bunch of her relatives and then out to lunch, I fed Carson in the car before I went in.

It's not because I was ashamed or embarassed about it; I just knew people have strong opinions about such things and didn't want to draw any unwanted attention to myself.

The only time I really remember ever doing it in public was when I was out in LA with Dan's sister. We'd been shopping all afternoon at a big outdoor mall/shopping center. I fed Carson while sitting on a bench way in the corner of the mall. With a blanket. And a nervous look on my face.

I've got no beef with it. Now breastfeeding at 8 years old and showing it to the BBC... That is wrong on many many levels. Almost as wrong as blindly attacking or supporting Obama.
