I've been away from the board quite a bit lately. I was doing a lot of kite flying practicing stuff for the New Jersey Stunt Kite Competition 2009 or NJSKC 09 which was held last weekend. The competition was in Liberty State Park in Jersey City, New Jersey. This place is a little oasis.

Mind you I'm only a novice but in my second outing I took 1st place in Ballet and 2nd place in Precision. Yipee!

Ok, so I took a bunch of pictures (and I hope they won't be too big). Jersey City was a rundown, rusty, crumbling, crappy town with a pretty shoddy reputation many years ago. In the years leading up to and post 9/11 a lot has be done. I like what they have done with the place even though I admit I only knew JC from underground, catching the Path trains to and from NYC.

OMG! Love the HK kite (thank you )! Your pictures are so beautiful I could no easier choose my favorite than picking between my children. Congrats on the first and second place wins!

Gray, that is awesome - in the true sense of the word. The Prism guys are there. Shit. If you ever find yourself farther north, I'd love to fly with you. I think you would love the Revolutions. They're expensive because you need to have 2 sets of Spectra line, but you really ride the wind with a Rev. The worst part is evening the 4 lines. Gotta lay them out, mark them and then adjust the sleeve to match.

Anyways, the Revs are real fun. No real slack-line moves like a regular stunter, but you can really have some fun with them.

Yeah Doc, the "Rev" people keep telling me they'll have me flying Revs in no time. I help them set up all the time. There is quite a bit to the 4 line kites

It was hard the first time I flew them. You have to train yourself not to pull the lines to turn. It's all in the wrists. You twist the lines to adjust the angle of the kite. Keep the leading edge straight and adjust the lower lines to slow down that side and the kite turns in that opposite direction. Pull back the lower lines and the kite stops and goes backwards.

You are very awesome! Congratulations! I have always wanted to fly kites, but the only ones I've ever had were the plastic ones from Zellers. My favourite was my Jem and the Holograms kite. It got caught on some phone wires and then crashed into the roof of the house, and broke in pieces.
