I'm getting the last few odds and ends out of the rental house and unpacking. Come Monday I will be a homeowner again and newly christened landlord. I think I need a title. How does "Duke of Funkenshire" sound?

Enjoying the last weekend of the summer. Pre-planning starts on Wednesday.
It was suppose(d?) to start on Monday, but Georgia took away three days of work and pay, so this year I work (and get paid for) 187 days instead of 190.
Cept I'll be going on Monday anyway because my mom took off work to help me set up my room like she does every year. I'll just not be getting paid for it this time .
Moving, woo hoo! But one of the most awesome friends I have from college just happens to be in town and just happened to offer help moving Saturday, and then we're going out for dinner.
Haven't seen her in about 4 years, and she offered to help me move, how sweet is that?
And Sunday my mother and brother are in to help finish moving.
Liu - do you run a lot? I just started running this week...was invited/challenged/suckered into doing a half marathon on January 10th and am trying to build up...
I have a fun-filled weekend of chores! Saturday is lawn care day (mowing, weedeating, weeding the garden) and washing the car (inside and out). Sunday is inside chores day (washing dishes, doing laundry, vaccuuming, cleaning the bathrooms).
Theo - a lot, yes. far? no. I run between 3 and 5 days a week at the gym. I started to be able to run a 10K. (6.2 miles). Most days I'm jacked if I do 3 miles.
And adding a second thought of that's cool, a half marathon seems like a lot to me. How did you get duped into that?

Tomorrow I'm taking Lauren to a bowling birthday party from 12 to 2.
Sunday, we're going to a cook out at a former neighbor's. Actually, it's next door to our first house. So strange to go there and see all the changes she has made to our first little place! I'd LOVE to see the inside...no more carpet, all refinished floors, a grand piano in what was our diningroom....(from what I hear)
This afternoon is a tough one. I planned to stay in all day and do laundry and other housework, but "Up" is at the $3 theater....
Ok, that's not the ONLY reason, but the was the initial reason. I'm 24 next week and can probably be outrun by 60 year olds. I'd like to change that. If I didn't have a goal I wouldn't keep up with it, so a "race" (which I'll be racing to complete) made sense.
I find if I'm not paying attention to how far I've gone (the treadmill is clocking for instance) life is good and I could run forever. But when I run the track at the gym and have to count laps if I want to know my distance, that's where I get an argument going in my head about why I'm running.
And Kathleen, I didn't see Up, I recall todd didn't like it. If you go, let me know if it's a thumbs up or down. And $3 movies rule.
I'll be spending the majority of this weekend at The Barnes and Nobles rolling my eyes and muttering rude things under my breath at people who want plastic bags for one item
That's funny, I hate it when I get a plactic bag forced on me for a book. Granted, i usually go to Borders because it's closer to where I live but it irks me to no end. I don't need a bag for one stinking paperback!
In fairness on a couple of days when we were slow, I kept track, and only about 10% of people who have less that 3 items want a bag when asked. It just seems disproportionately larger because its a huge pet peeve of mine.
I admit, I ask to bag my books when I leave the bookstore I feel guilty walking out holding books and think someone is going to catch me for stealing them. Normally it's when I'm in the mall and it's easier to carry them around when I'm shopping.
How do the alarm thingies work that you walk thru? Are the books deactivated at the cashier's so the alarm doesn't go off when you walk thru?
The other day I went to Peir 1 and bought some votive candle holders, votive candles and a small wicker trash can. The sales guy wrapped the votive holders and put everything in the trash can and handed that to me with the receipt. It was a little odd walking out of the store holding a trash can full of stuff. I felt like I was at a yard sale.
I just re-read tOdd's review of Up and he definitely didn't like it. The kids seem excited to see it, and it's only $3 per kid, then $4 each for me and Dan. So we'll see how it goes.
The bad news is it starts at 7:10, which means Dan would have to meet us there right from work in his work clothes. With no dinner. The other showtime is 9:20 which is awfully late, but the girls have been lasting until 11 here and there all summer so that shouldn't be a problem. And Megan hasn't made it through a moive without falling asleep yet so I'm sure tonight will be no different.
Having worked in retail a bit, I feel fairly confident that unless you are flat out caught red handed, no one gives a crap if you steal shit. It's not like anyone is paying you $8 an hour to be a police officer. The manager, who has to answer for shortages probably cares but she/he can't be everywhere at once and most people really cringe at the thought of harassing a good customer with false accusations of stealing.
Besides, if you haven't done anything wrong, what's there to get worked up about. The receipt is usually tucked in the book, it would take about 3 seconds to show someone if asked.
The deactivator is a large magnet, about the size of a mouse pad that sits on the counter, above it is the scanner. It's pretty hard to NOT deactivate it when you scan it, although I wont swear it never happens.
I always put the receipt in the front flap of the book, and from where I'm standing, I watch the customer walk out the door. People will ask if they can go back into the store like that or over to cafe, and I tell them as long as they have their receipt they should be fine.
But in honesty, Ginny's right, we don't get paid enough to tackle anyone over a few books.
We also sell resuable bags for $1.49. I offer them to everyone, and I sell about 20-30 of them a day.
Tomorrow is Iggy's 4th birthday so we are having a caterpillar party for him at the pool. I am making devils food cupcakes with green frosting and multicolored sprinkles, lining them up to look like a caterpillar body, and making legs out of Twizzlers. It should look cute. Tomorrow night a bunch of our friends are going out for drinks and apps to celebrate my birthday.
I'm getting ready to head to the outter banks for the week.
Tru, happy bday iggy. A couple of halloweens ago I took mini hot dogs wrapped them in pastry, stuck crunchy chinese noodles in them and made bugs to eat!
I've been to the north part of the island, kill devil hills, whale head and duck before. This time we're staying south of the bridge in Nag's Head. Big house, big group... should be fun.
The world police and fire games are in vancouver this next week, so I might head there either sat or monday. On sunday I'm taking 2 of my nieces downtown to watch the pride parade.
finishing packing. Linds is heading to a cottage in Quebec with her dad for days.
I need some serious "decompression" for a day or two after this week. Don't ask. Nothing awful just relentless chaos and drama provided by teens and their hormones.
I'd heard people cried during Up before I saw it. I still cannot figure out which part made people cry. I didn't come close, and I cry at everything. Huh.
I don't give a shite 'cause I got my Guinness Stout!
My first big sobbing cry began as soon as he told the retirement home workers that he was going back into his house to "say goodbye". The second the bag appeared and broke open and all the balloons came out, I completely lost it.
MIL took us to see Up this afternoon. Wow, that was great! I teared up in several places, but it was so fun and funny, I never reached tears streaming down my cheeks stage.
I really liked the short film before the movie, too -- "Partly Cloudy."
Thank you all for the positive reviews of up, now I feel like I can see it
And Lea... Jersey does suck. (apologies to any boardies who live there)
As for my weekend? I did it! Over 4 miles as the first mile mark was a bit down the trail. And more impressively for me (possibly not for anyone else) I did it in less time than it took anyone to bike 12 miles.
My weekend was legendary!!! Sister, BIL, youngest son Keefer, and his girl all stayed with us for the weekend. Was Keefer's bday on Saturday. Saw Reel Big Fish and the English Beat at the Wave House (awesome place to see bands).
Lots of beach, sun, drinks, fun, and yummy food. PAR-TAY
