so the MJ stories continue to surface. 12 would-be sperm donors, half a dozen whacked out pseudo baby mommas, genetic engineering via possible presidential spermins... yadda yadda yawn.
But today I was aghast, you heard me, aghast at the med timeline leading to MJ'S death. All meds supplied by Dr. Murray
1:30 am 10 mg Valium tablet given
2:00 am 2 mg Ativan via IV
3:00 am 2 mg Versed via IV
5:00 am 2 mg Ativan via IV
7:30 am 2 mg Versed via IV
10:40 am 25 mg Diprivan diluted with Xylocaine via IV
10:50 -doc leaves briefly returns to find MJ not breathing, begins CPR and administers Anexate (to reverse effect of sedatives)
I had Propfol for my recent surgery. One dose, and I was out after less than 10 seconds. And I had an anesthesia hangover for like, a week afterward - literally I would taste it in the back of my throat, get sleepy all over again, that kind of thing. I don't understand how MJ could function after being given Propofol on a daily (?) basis, not to mention the rest of all that stuff.
At times I wonder how close Ive come to an accidental overdose myself. I used to drink a bottle of wine at night when I got home from work. I wanted to stop but didnt know what to do with all the stress so I went to see my doctor. He gave me some lorazepam (same as ativan) to take instead. For a while there I was drinking the wine AND taking the Lorazepam. Ive stopped that all completely now though. This kind of shit scares the bejesus out of me.
we use a lot of propofol at work. it burns off really fast (we usually use a premed to keep them from coming up too quickly). when i say it burns off really fast, i mean sometimes if an animal is hard to intubate we have to give more because they're practically awake. when we use it there's a recommended dose, and we titrate it in to effect. we also give it to seizure patients (as in uncontrollable, won't stop) at a constant rate to stop the seizures
i didn't have a hangover from my propofol at all (i got that after the versed).
did you get a premed? maybe you're just a sensitive gal, louise
To tell the truth, Maestra, I only know I had propofol because the surgeon asked the anesthesiologist "everything all set?" and she said "I have the propofol ready to go". I have no clue if they gave me anything else, so you're probably right. And I don't know what you mean by a "premed".
I've taken one Valium in my life, prior to my first hour long MRI.
10 mgs and I was sliding off the chair onto the floor in the waiting room. Oh I was a vision of beauty in my gym clothes (no metal), sans bra (no wires), without makeup (no metallics) and no deodorant (no metals)
while slurring and falling about the place.
Call me Lurlene but I'm sure I looked like drunk trailer trash.
i don't think so, i don't know about people at all. it's been around at least as long as i've been a tech (7 years), and i don't know how long before then. usually vets are a little behind human meds (mainly because vets are notoriously cheap- and we don't have insurance companies footing the bill, (owners are also notoriously cheap- ha ha), so it often has to be available in generic before we can get our hands on it)
when we first started using it (it was around longer than i've been a tech, but the clinic where i worked didn't stock it back then) i remember it was like liquid gold- it was crazy expensive and it has an egg white base, so bacteria LOOOOOOOOVES to grow in it, so you have to throw it out about four hours after you open the bottle. now that it's cheaper we probably run through ten bottles a week.
SO (sorry about the rambly)-- i'm thinking human medicine has probably had it for a while.
we use it with morphine as a premed, so there's still a barfy road to la-la-land, but the road back is usually much smoother.
