My sister and her family are here while we are, too. My 3 year old nephew is not a huge fan of the beach, so my brother in law digs him a big, deep hole in the sand in front of where we're sitting, and he'll sit in there and play with his trucks.

Today's hole was impressive....at least six feet long and four feet wide and pretty deep. Some ten/twelve year old boys got interested in the project and asked if they could build a trench in front of it to protect it when the water came up, and maybe make the walls higher. My brother in law said sure, and once my nephew fell asleep, they kept playing.

As soon as my parents go for a walk and Dan semi-dozes off, these 3 teenage boys come walking by and decide to destroy the entire thing. They stand on the sides to make the walls collapse, kick sand into the hole, etc., and the whole time, the kids who were in it are pleading with them to stop. My first thought was "Boy, having older brothers must suck." Then I realized what was going on....AND THAT THE TEENAGE BOYS ARE TAKING A WALK WITH THEIR DAD. Who is standing there. Watching them. AND LAUGHING.

As soon as the dad starts to walk away, I followed. He turned around to see if his hooligan offspring is behind him, and our conversation goes like this:

Me: Excuse me. Can I ask you a question?

Him: Uh huh?

Me: Are those your sons?

Him: Uh huh.

Me: Just so you know, my brother in law spent about a half hour digging that hole for my three year old nephew. Your kids are a bunch of DICKS!

And then I walked away.

I hate bullies. I hate them. And there's even more I wish I'd gotten the chance to say.

Amazing.

People are dicks.

What's scary about that is that that one adult dick has now successfully ensured that his dickishness would continue threefold into the next generation.

Everyone should be sterilized at puberty and required to take a test to earn their right to breed.

I had a kitten come into work the other day with a huge chunk of its ear missing. The owner told me that her eight year old son was "playing with a knife and the kitten walked into it" and lost a CHUNK OF HIS EAR- with cartilage!
I could not look at the kid (who was being sickly sweet with his cat) without shuddering.
He'll be the next dahmer.
