Wow...it's September!

In Latin septem means "the seventh." Cuz, back when the new year started in March, September was the 7th month.

Well, September 1st is:
National Cherry Popover Day

A popover is basically a light, airy muffin/roll.

Here's a Dried Cherry Popover recipe: (Care of - http://www.realsimple.com )

Ingredients
1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted, plus more for the pan
3 large eggs, beaten
1/3 cup plus 1 teaspoon, granulated sugar
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 1/4 cups whole milk
1/2 cup dried cherries

Directions
Heat oven to 375° F.
Butter the bottom and sides of a 2-quart baking dish.
In a bowl, combine the eggs and 1/3 cup of the sugar.
Whisk in the flour until no lumps remain.
Whisk in the milk and melted butter.
Pour the batter into the prepared pan and scatter the cherries over the top.
Sprinkle with the remaining sugar and bake until puffed and golden, about 45 minutes.

I thought that July and August were added into the calendar for Julius Caesar, which pushed September from its previous spot as seventh month to its current spot at ninth.

Dr. Zhivago, you are right...

This is from our friends at Wikipedia:

The first step of the Julian reform was to realign the start of the calendar year (1 January) to the tropical year by making 46 BC 445 days long.

In Latin, septem means "seven" and septimus means "seventh"; September was in fact the seventh month of the Roman calendar until 153 BC, when there was a calendar reform from the month of the Ides of March to the Kalends, or January 1. In the Northern hemisphere, the beginning of the meteorological autumn is 1 September.
