1.21 gigawats

We're in the middle of a sermon series at church going though the decades. This past Sunday was about the 1980's.

Here's the 80's montage the band did:

This video quality is kinda bad because it's so far away. There's a better one on my facebook page where you can see the Thriller monsters better. (I don't know how to embed that one beause it's not youtube.)

Somehow, they were able to get a DeLorean. Here we are with Doc after the service.

How many people can fit in your church at once? That looks ENORMOUS.

I don't know exactly. Somewhere around 1500 I think. We have three services. The first two are usually pretty packed, and the thrid one is usually only about 1/10 full.

I watched about a third of that - and the production values are pretty amazing there for a church, and the band is a solid cover band.

How do they tie that in with church?

You gotta read between the lines, Squid.  Whenever they refer to a seemingly annonymous man, it's Jesus - 'woman' means Mary.  Thriller = rising from the dead.  It's all right there!

I'm just joking.  That's really cool, Amber.  Having spent almost all of my adolescent Sunday mornings in a Catholic church, it was a little unnerving going to a church like that.  I just wanted everybody to sit down and be quiet - not much for dancing and stuff.  happy.gif

I have a friend at work that invites me to her church a lot. I haven't been (not my bag, but not against whatever someone else wants to do) - and she keeps trying to entice me with things like this. Hey - we've got a band! Beach balls flying around the room! You can wear shorts and flip flops! Nothing wrong with it, just don't see the "church" part; then again, I'm not there! Seems more like a social gathering?

Maybe I'm just old fashioned or out of touch. My church experience was going to church with my grandparents, and my grandmother would spit shine me and make me wear frilly dresses and mary-janes and shush me a lot. They did Sacred Heart singing. Didn't appreciate it at the time - very haunting and beautiful.

Looks like fun, though, for the folks there. Such a large church!

Squid, Each decade has had a theme that went with it. The 80's was all about consumption - the attitue that if it feels good, do it, and "success + stuff = great." And how that is the opposite of what God teaches.

ETA Jen, He's 6'4" and I'm 5'7".

I'm curious, how long is the church service?

They usually run about 1 hour and 20 minutes. Sometimes a little shorter; sometimes a little longer. Can't be too much longer, though, because the service times are 2 hours apart.
