Put it in Neutral?

Carmaker Toyota has announced its biggest recall, saying it will call in 3.8 million vehicles in the US.

The problem is with loose floormats, which may cause the accelerator pedal to stick.

Last month, an off-duty California state trooper and three members of his family were killed when their 2009 Lexus E350 crashed in the San Diego area.

Before the crash, one of the passengers called 911 to report that the accelerator was stuck and the car had reached 120 miles per hour (193km per hour).

Aren't you suppose to shift the car into neutral if the accelerator sticks? Hell, maybe turn the key and shut off the car?

Am I missing something here, or does that not make much sense?
