I listened to Rush Limbaugh after it was announced to hear his spin. He was playing old clips of Farrakhan yelling about how great Gaddafi is and how he was a brother and all that. Rush was saying how Farrakhan is going to be upset with 'Barry' Obama for killing his friend. I was like, 'Huh?' That's the spin??
I gotta admit, from the footage I've seen, that would be a terrifying and shitty way to die. But I suppose it could be argued that he died as he lived.
The whole parading the dead body in the streets and for cameras, holding the head by the hair - that shit's disturbing to me. My question is, is that shit really actually disturbing or are we just so far away from death in our American culture, everything deathy is hidden away and sanitized by funeral homes and all, that any contact with reality freaks us out, whereas in other cultures it just is what it is?
Cuz the peeps doing the body displaying and bragging seem perfectly comfortable with it.
If you've ever watched anybody die, it ain't pretty. Even in a nice, clean (sort of) hospital. I suppose we are removed from the stuff that follows. It wasn't all that long ago, though, that people washed and dressed bodies in the home and put the casket up in the living room.
Was listening to NPR this morning and they were talking about the "official" reports being he was "accidentally" shot in the head. Um, yeah.
Saddam mondo video. 6.5 out of 10. Shaky cell phone only footage adds disconcertment to proceedings, however crazy yelling really adds to horror. Ultimately lack of detail brings this one down a few notches - although there is something to be said for the fact that true horror is best left to the imagination.
Gaddafi mondo video(s). 9 out of 10. We run the gamut hear, from the shaky cell phone footage and crazy rebel shrieks that we only get a taste of in the Saddam video, to hi-def posing and preening with dead bodies. Turn away now.
Bin Ladin mondo video. ? out of 10. Unreleased. Why do I have a feeling this probably looks like something straight out of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, night-vision levels.
