I really like that teapot, Appy. What color did you get?
I love tea. I am drinking Japanese green tea at the moment. We have this machine at work that you just put the packets in and it makes single cups (also does simple and fancy coffees plus hot chocolate and something called a Milky Way but I haven't tried that).
Oh no PearlGurl. I meant to say that I've drank this tea using only boiling water, then adding one teaspoon of sugar. It doesn't ruin the experience for me.
When I first drank this tea, I wanted to see if it would taste better by adding milk. Surprisingly it does. Also when placing the tea pot on the stove, I have it on the low setting, so when I finally pour it, I still get the flavour.
Steep black tea for only about 2 or 3 minutes, they use a higher temp though then green or white tea. I have a collection of teapots but my favorite to brew tea in is the Yixing (a chinese clay pot) and then the Tetsubin (Japapanese iron) teapot.
Try the Teavana website, they have info on brewing tea and also some really great teas. Wegmans got rid of their great tea section, very upset. Been using loose tea for years, my favorite is the Jasmine Dragon Pearls, expensive though.
The roasted rice in the Japanese green tea takes away the bitterness and give it a bit of a smokey flavor. I don't like to fiddle with strainers, milk, or sweeteners at work. Generally coffee with a bit of milk for my caffeine fix at home.
