So in MI, a guy named Pete Hoekstra is running against Democratic Incumbent Debbie Stabenow for United States Senate.

During the Super Bowl, MI viewers got to see this gem:

Which the HuffPo notes even Republicans are having a negative reaction to - with one GOP consultant saying, "Stabenow has got to go. But shame on Pete Hoekstra for that appalling new advertisement," De Leeuw wrote on his Facebook page Sunday morning. "Racism and xenophobia aren't any way to get things done."

Here's that article: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/02/06/pete-hoekstra-ad-china_n_1256791.html

Further, a former co-worker on FB posts: "So the internets tell me the guy who made pretty jaw-dropping pete hoekstra ad is the same genius behind O'Donnell's "I'm Not a Witch" ad, the McCain ad comparing Obama to Paris Hilton, AND the demon sheep ad. Um...so Republicans keep hiring this guy because...?"

CRAZY GOOD!

Holy cow.

I bet there are people who responded positively to that drivel, and that's the frightening part.

That girl in the video has no shame at all. What an abysmal ad. Pretty sure that ad will do nothing more than ensure that Pete is not electable.

But "Racism and xenophobia" are Republican hallmarks. You can't just start throwing out the party's core principles in an election year.

Or did you just mean that they need to go back to being subtle about them?

Yes, Hep. We all need to stick to our carefully crafted code. The proletariat should be seen and not mobilized.
