I have a good friend who is republican and she will side with the republicans no matter what. I find that black and white mentality so infuriating. I refuse to talk politics with just about anyone. Even those I happen to agree with. I'm in the minority here though so it just may be self-preservation in my case. But really? You would vote for such a jackass just because that's the party you affiliate with?
Actually I have a good friend who really is trying to get Green Party candidates on the ballot in NC. I actually accompanied him to one of his meetings on the way to a concert. I tried to burst their little third-party excitement bubble as well as I could, but they're still excited...
But, yeah, there's candidates out there if you don't want to vote for either party - but it'd be more of a protest vote than anything, obviously.
Both sides are very good at inspiring their bases. Obama won last time because he also won over the undecideds. If they stay home this election, then it boils down to which side has the bigger base. Are you really that confident that your side outnumbers the white-bread hillbillies of middle-America?
I know I'm staying home this time around. Voting for a "change" that never occurred wasn't worth the jury-duty that resulted from it. Fool me once...
You're right, it's about who shows up - but you're not quite right about how they dynamics will play. The bases are by no means guaranteed.
If Romney is the nominee, the socially conservative base will not show up. There is no motivation there. They are not fooled.
If Santorum is the nominee, EVERYONE who doesn't agree with his conservative whack job views will show up. In droves. To defeat the American Ayatollah. ONLY the farthest right will vote for him, and moderate Republicans will vote for Obama in droves or not at all.
Dem Women are pissed and motivated to show up thanks to the bone-headed gaffes the Republicans have made on that front.
African Americans will show up for Obama again, Latinos probably too. Pinkos like me will too. Obama's base will show up.
Independents probably won't turn out if Romney is the candidate, and WILL turn out for Obama if Santorum wins.
Depending on how the Health Care case goes, a lot of people might turn out who actually wanted health care and aren't as pissed as the Republican clapping seals would have you believe.
I think that backfires. I think there are many, many people in this country who see the value in The National Health Care law. I think the Republicans have this one very, very wrong. If the SCOTUS kills it, I think they awaken a sleeping giant.
over 50% of the Health Care purchased in this country is purchased by Government Entities. To the extent we allow the free market Health Insurance Industry to screw its customers, we are allowing them to screw ourselves! We all have a very personal stake in making sure these controls exist, because most of the money being raked in my the Health Care Industry is coming from our tax dollars.
B..bu..but Dick Cheney! He got a heart transplant! Just think what could have happened to a dried up old man that's lived his life already and suffered 5 previous heart attacks. He walked away with a heart a deserving person could have used. It's unfathomable.
71 year olds don't get major organ transplants. It's just not done. Unless, of course, you're Dick Cheney.
Dick Cheney got his mansion removed from Google Earth. Try and get your house removed from Google Earth and see how that works out. If he wanted it badly enough, Cheney could have gotten your heart - and even had it removed from your chest still beating.
No, it's no shock. If he paid for it, like good old Larry and Bill, it would be one thing. But you and I paid for Dick's, all the while being told that universal healthcare is something only evil, Socialist Europeans have. This is what people that don't own a dictionary from which they could extract the meaning of the word "socialism" and instead rely on the rantings of the Limbaughs and Santori of the world.
Those stupid Europeans, paying higher taxes yet getting 5 weeks of vacation per year and healthcare from the cradle to the grave. How dare they try to foist their evil intentions upon us.
Did you know that until WWII, only rich people paid income taxes? That war came in handy for all kinds of things - getting us out of the Depression, killing Hitler, and assuring the American public that the very richest of the rich would own Congress from now until perpetuity, shifting the tax burden onto the backs of the middle income earners forever, amen. For job creation, donchaknow. In India! Bwahahaha!
