Drink your coffee!

When the team first crunched the numbers, coffee seemed to have a detrimental effect on longevity. But people who drink coffee are more likely to smoke, and when the scientists took that into account (along with other demographic factors), the opposite appeared to be true.

Compared with men who didn't drink any coffee at all, those who drank just one cup per day had a 6% lower risk of death during the course of the study; those who drank two to three cups per day had a 10% lower risk, and those who had four to five cups had a 12% lower risk. For men who drank six cups or more, the apparent benefit waned slightly, with a 10% lower risk of death during the study compared with men who drank no coffee.

The relationship between coffee and risk of death was even more dramatic in women. Those who drank one cup per day had 5% lower odds of dying during the study compared with women who drank none. Those who consumed two or three cups a day were 13% less likely to die, those who downed four or five cups were 16% less likely to die, and those who drank six or more cups had a 15% lower mortality rate.

Saw this this morning, as I drank coffee. The muscle-heads have been arguing this for years. Glad it's true.

I really need to up my coffee quotient to hopefully counteract all the other unhealthy things I do with my life.

I'm sure that's how it works... right?

The literature I've read in the last couple of years also suggests that a cup before exercise can aid in performance and a cup afterwards can aid in speeding post-exercise recovery. (However, I wouldn'g advise drinking coffee immediately before high-intensity exercise and do NOT make it mega-strong. Give it half-an hour or so. A racing heart-beat and some gastro-intestinal distress are not really what you want just as you begin your routine)

Back when we had the healthclub membership when I used to elliptical a lot, if I drank coffee I'd have to take a leak in the middle of the work out and I didn't want to leave the machine because someone else would take.

So I'd continue ellipticalling until I was about burst. Good times.

Yeah, running with a full bladdder is happy fun time, too. Central Park has a few bathrooms (mostly scary), but often they are not open early in the morning.
