Where are the Branch Turtulians today?

Anyone still keep in contact with Virgil, Becky (Beckak?) or any of the others?

One of them filtered up in my "People you may know" list in FB, which was weird, and made me think to put up this post.

It made me revise all my anon conspiracy theories, too!

I was honestly wondering what happened to folks. As for the term, Arwen - sorry. I'm fairly attached to it, and having lived through that period, I think it fits.

Fair enough, anon, since Caps is just interested in giving me grief on a regular basis without owning it.

I consider a post by an anon to be much more hostile than something posted by Squid but that's just me. The anons haven't exactly been adding positive content and I couldn't see any kind of a positive spin to that post, especially since I'm sure anon has some idea of who is no longer posting and just wants to stir shit.

If Squid says he is not stirring, he's not anon and I am more likely to believe him although, truthfully, I am not 100% sure what his purpose was.

That's the difference, to me, of reading something from a known poster and something from some anon.

Oh and I just said I didn't like that term, Squid, not that you had to stop using it happy.gif

"branch Dravidians" were people who followed a cult in Waco Texas that emassed guns and came to a fiery end, "Turtle" was a slow witted and droll OT poster who started his own message board and people followed him there. Also came to a figurative firey end.

Re: Where are the Branch Turtulians today?

July 11 2012, 8:32 AM

Yes. It was Virgil Turtle aka Virgil Trucks III, a scion of the Allman Brothers Band family. I say these things because he did not hide them, and to this day if you google "virgilturtle" this information is readily available.

It was kind of weird actually. Trucks, who was a fairly frequent poster here, created his own board. He just kinda 'did it' one day, and then posted about it on this board like, "Hey, I made my own board, stop by and see!" Some here reacted that he was advertising his own thing on tOdd's dime, and trying to 'recruit' out of this community. He reacted defensivly to these complaints, and others defended his right to do whatever he wanted.

It was all very Internet 1.0.

Then it escalated to factions and entangling alliances which led to the Great Board War. This board won, but there were casualties.

As Appy said, in the Great Board War, the OTTVB Ministry of Information coined the phrase "Branch Turtulians" to cast Trucks as a David Koresh-like leader of a cult of wackos (which ironically included a guy name Waccomacco) that left to follow a madman. It was a joke.

Others may have a different spin, but the victors write history. happy.gif

I'm an ex-turtulian. Because of that, I'll receive total consciousness on my death bed. So I got that going for me.

I joined the VT board shortly after discovering DF board. All in all, I liked it when there were people posting. But my interest in all message boards has since diminished. Probably cuz I don't have desk job.

I am one of the ex-turtulians as well. Was kinda fun for a bit. Until some things were said and Lead Turtulians turned into fascist anarchists.

Then I came back here.
