Well, thanks for asking, Appy.

It's coming along, I guess. Here's a picture of the pool deck. That canopy in back of the pool deck has seating for 40. 47 RSVP but it's going to be informal so, I think it'll be enough.

100_0903.jpg

I've got 3 pork butts rubbed down in the fridge and I'll have burgers and dogs too.

Still more work to do, but I'm feeling pretty good about it.

No. We thought about it though. I'm glad we aren't. It was hot and irritating putting this thing together. I don't want to be hot and irritated when I get married.

Thanks, jo. I definitely feel like I scored on it. It's a great place. It has some warts, of course, but I love it.

Gladys doesn't come around anymore. Which is ok. Letting the dogs out was becoming an adventure every morning. I never knew turkeys could fly like they can.

Beautiful place, Caps. Love the sprawling lawn. The high fence around the pool -- is that to keep kids out? For insurance purposes? Just curious. Every state has different laws. I love the tents with all the seating -- quite the cook out! It looks like it's going to be a fabulous soiree.

Hes not getting married, he s too hot and sweaty to get married.

Rum Punch
1 1/2 cups rum
1/4 cup triple sec
Splash of grenadine
6 oz frozen juice concentrate (I like orange/pineapple)
6 oz another frozen concentrate ( I like fruit punch)
Sliced oranges, lemons limes

Make juice according to can, I use ice water. Add in rum and triple sec. Splash grenadine until turns from yucky brown to delish red color. Throw in fruit and serve over ice! I've multiplied it, turns out great!!

We just had a retractable awning installed, our house is so much cooler and we can sit on our deck, finally.

Everyone like your house?

Things my cousin-in-law said:
To his wife while in the master bath on the "tour". "believe me, they got some kind of insane deal to get this house"
Overhead him in kitchen: " my father in law wanted to give us one of those freezer on the bottom fridges, I wouldn't have it in my house, stupid waste of space"
To me about window above front door "appy, you really need a window treatment, have you thought about a swag?"

Re: Caps Big Gig

Did I ever tell you guys about the newspaper I found in one of the walls in this place?

We were here like a month and we started seeing carpenter ants in the bathroom. So, I researched carpenter ants. They like wet wood. I went to the basement below the tub and there was some wet wood. Our shower alcove had a shitty plastic tile job. The previous resident was an old dude who took baths and used an old dude hose thing to wash his hair, so the shitty tile job wasn't a problem for him.

Anyway, when I was looking for the cause of the wetness, I removed a piece of wood between the joists along the sill beam in the basement. I took out a folded newspaper that had been used for insulation. While I was cursing my bad luck for having a poorly tiled bathroom, I started looking at the paper. It was a Boston Journal from April 12, 1917. The front page of the sports section was a story chronicling opening day of baseball. Opening Day baseball between the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees. The Sox were the defending World Champions. The pitcher for the Sox that day? A certain gentleman named Ruth.

100_0908.jpg

100_0909.jpg

It blew my mind when I found it. I couldn't process it. I felt like it was a joke or something. I must have stared at it for an hour.

I meant to post about it then, but never got around to it.

It's a little over half an acre, Squid.

I was wearing my JAWS T-shirt Saturday. It has even more relevance now with the recent shark sightings on the Cape and Nantucket. Got some laughs.

Re: Caps Big Gig

I was just reading an article about the guy who was bitten. He was swimming 400 yards off shore. He says he wouldn't have been so far out if he had known there had been recent sightings or if warning signs had been posted.

I gotta call BS on that one. The whole country knows there's been recent shark activity on the Cape.

I guess the shark just nibbled, because he still has both legs. Too bad. It would have made for one hell of an uplifting Olympic story in 2016.

Re: Caps Big Gig

August 7 2012, 10:06 AM

Yeah, apparently they can tell right quick that we're a low energy meal not worth eating and most will back off. If they've not hit your vitals, you're usually gonna make it.

The vibe on the Cape was, "Yeah, why not... let's put up some signs. If there's a rip tide we've got a sign, sure - put up a bunch of signs that say there are Sharks too."

I was in your camp though. Pretty much any time I step into the ocean, I recognize that I've entered an entirely different food chain, with very different rules, and I'm no where near the top or designed for success within it without serious supplemental equipment.

The guy who got bitten at least didn't sound like someone searching for someone to sue in my mind. I hope he doesn't. Definitely one of those, "Wow that's a bummer - glad you're alive!" stories, not one of those "Somebody's gotta pay for this!!" moments.

I've done ribs on a weber 22.5 inch kettle grill. They come out nice, but it's a PITA trying to keep the temp low enough without putting the fire out. And you can't do more than like 2 racks at a time.

Here's a pretty good video of the technique. There's a bunch of BS at the beginning but they start cooking at about the 5 minute mark.

I read an excerpt from that guy's book, Low and Slow. He's kind of a DB. He's condescending and tells you not to even bother cooking if you aren't going to cook exactly the way he tells you to.

The video is a pretty good tutorial though.
