I commented because a similar thing happened to us. I'll just copy and paste my comment.
My husband lost his wedding ring a few years ago. He had played a gig in a large public park and then went to eat crabs. He noticed it was missing when he was having the crabs. He, his friend, and the wait staff all dug through the trash, but no ring. The next morning, he went back to the park. And HE FOUND IT. It was just a normal ring from a jewelry store, not a family heirloom like Todd's, but it was still the ring I put on his finger on our wedding day. So glad Todd found the diamond!
My first wedding ring was a family heirloom (his side), and that thing caused me so much anxiety. If our marriage had lasted more than the 3 years it did, I would probably have had a replica made. I remember walking around with a fist all the time in fear it would fall off.
But it was really flattering and awesome gesture. And good on your for working that out.
Geez, looking at that lot, I would have kissed that diamond goodbye. I've never had an heirloom ring though, so they don't carry as much emotional weight. Glad you guys stuck it out and the effort paid off.
I hate losing things that matter. I try really hard not to get attached to material things so I don't ever have to go through that again.
When I was in the hospital having my second kiddo, my first kiddos baby book got thrown out by someone staying at my house. It got set down on top of a stack of newspapers and then the stack got tossed. I had put so much work and effort into the book... you know, first kid. This is in the day of non digital pictures too, but also his hospital bracelet, lock of hair from first hair cut, all the notes that I had written in and dates of "firsts". Devastating.
I lost a ring my Aunt gave me. I had loved that ring since I was a kid, and she said I could have it when I got married. So she gave it to me at my first wedding, and I wore it.
Then I decided to wear it again at my second wedding (outside at a winery) and I lost it there. I thought about going back with a metal detector, but never did. It could have been anywhere.
And I lost all of my high school yearbooks in a basement flood. I lost a TON of stuff in that flood, but my yearbooks were the only things that couldn't be replaced. So my sister hunted down new ones (got 2 from the school, knew someone that didn't want theirs, and found one on ebay) and gave them to me for Christmas. I was shocked, and it was so awesome and thoughtful. They don't have all the signatures and stuff, but it was still pretty cool of my sis.

Don't think so? I thought it was funny, too. One of those, "You can find ANYthing on eBay!" things.
I went to school with Shandi Finnessey (Miss USA 200X), also the blond girl on Lingo, but didn't graduate with her. And Kimora Perkins (aka Kimora Lee Simmons). Ahhhh - that could potentially be why it was on eBay? She might have been in it that year.
