I agree with you about choices. I also don't like flaming posters that just toss their opinion out there as the end-all-meet-all. I thought you did quite well with your counter and explanation.
Personally I am not much interested in PBA ammo. I consider it more of a marketing approach (lure the uninformed with high fps as a measure) than of any real use; other than perhaps that it helps the environment a bit. But considering the huge amounts of chemicals, heavy metals, and other contaminants that are belched into the air or pumped into the rivers, lakes, or ground....I don't worry much about my lead pellets.
I see the PBA issue as a choice...and don't think that they are harmful to the barrels. They aren't steel, and don't go THAT much faster in real FPS; just looks cool over the thousand fps mark in my opinion. As far as more "power" I think you said; you and I both know that FPE comes from weight of pellet and speed. PBA pellets are very light; hence their high speed. I doubt that they have the penetration and kinetic energy spread that my much slower but heavier lead pellet provides.
I certainly don't see you as the evil wizard for promoting them lol. That is ridiculous to me.
However, I am deployed to Iraq. That means that until I get home this summer it is all conjecture on my part.
Perhaps you can shoot 'em through a chrony....and see what they REALLY get, then figure the FPE, then shoot lead in a heavy pellet and figure the FPE from that; same gun of course.
You could even shoot a block of wood and measure the depth of penetration....or a steak lol.
All the best,
-Dan
