different forms of "breaking in a springer". To burn off excess lube in a newly tuned springer only takes about 20 shots.
To find consistency in fps in a springer could take 500 shots, sometimes more for accurate target shooting. But this should be done slowly.
But what I am talking about is fast shooting, where over heating in a piston's chamber can do damage to the piston's seal. Remember, a car's motor has pistons, but a car's motor has a cooling system to prevent over heating, a springer does not.
I hope this helps.
