Pellet penetration testing

by Ron Tinnell (Login tinl22)

Here's a cheap and easy substitute for ballistics gelatin. Use a sweet potato! They are a bit denser than regular potatoes, and seem to give about the same penetration results as ballistics gelatin. I find a big sweet potato, then cut off one end to give a flat surface to fire into, shooting into it longways. I'm not sure this would work well for high velocity rifles, but it works for me at lower velocities.
