yeah, to be honest.....

i wasn't asked permission to use the bootleg (i know i don't own the rights, but someone is planning to make music from my bootleg without sharing it). it's a basic courtesy to ask someone if you wish to sell their track.

also, since they didn't get them from me, they must have downloaded it from the internet, so the album will be full of mp3s, so the quality will be poor.

My 10 cents

Yeah the problem is thought if they are putting it out on Radio 1, every remotely interested teenager is going to be down Rough Trade, (or phoning Radio 1 to find out where Rough Trade is!), and then making this unknown person a small fortune. Really suprised Rough Trade would stock it quite frankly given what you say regarding the quality. Someone should get in touch with Radio 1 with a set of links is if whoevers put this out thinks there pulling a fast one, someone could soon change that.

just to let you know - from what i heard..

.. its by a guy who does a lot of these things, i also heard he is based in camden.

i think its quite funny, as half the tracks are edited like shit, some are creditted to the wrong person (freelance doing teen spirit?) and its no different to downloading them and burning a cd. but some people (along with me) have forked out £10 for a copy.

as for who owns what, bollocks to it. let me tell you, the bigger something gets, the less the public care a fuck as to who did it.

just download it.

Kurtis, just to add to my somewhat illiterate point that I was trying to make above, if Jo Whiley says that she has got it of of an album, how many thousands of niave kids listening, won't think of using the net to download the tracks, and make this person in Camden rich by eventually working out where Rough Trade is?. This guy has obivously pulled a fast one, done it really badly as well, I just don't think Radio 1 who should know better should be pushing it that's all. I know Sleazy wouldn't have the rights ot the Madison Ave vs Blur cut up, that's not the point in my opinion though....

it has happened a lot.
Just picture the scene a couple of years ago as a am listening to some white labels in htfr in brum when i pick out a copy of my own bootleg!!
i wouldn't be too pissed off but it was an old 'demo' version i passed around a fatboy slim ng!
if you are interested the final (still a bit shitty) version is available at my webs(h)ite
http://listen.to/fatarnold
it is a mash up of dub be good to me vs praise you, all done before i got acid in cooledit96 and wavestudio!
it is under the will chump section

if one of mine was on there i wouldnt be bothered. i wouldnt buy it if i was a bootleg fan either because whats the fucking point when you can just download the tracks and burn them onto cd yourself (cd writers are standard with PCs now and also cheap to buy) - its not like this guy is gonna make millions by bootlegging your bootlegs

note that comment: bootlegging bootlegs. ironic huh? dont you think the artists you sampled for these bootlegs are more entitled to the profits from this CD then yourselves? call me a traitor to the scene or whatever but lets get things in perspective!

It is reviewed in this weeks' NME. They give it 7/10 and basically see it as a way for people on the outside of the scene to get their mits on some top bootys. Which is fair comment I suppose. It's still prefereble for most people to go and buy a handy CD than spending hours on a dial-up modem downloading a bunch of stuff, figuring out how to convert it to .wav and then burning it.

I agree in principle that the original bootleggers have no argument against someone profitting from their work.
On the other hand it goes totally against the spirit in which bootlegs are done. They aren't done for profit and I the original artisit is not loosing sales or revenue because of it (quiet the reverse more likely). They are done for fun and for DJs. What annoys me about this CD is the way someone is making money out of other people art (yes, I said art) without adding anything themselves. The beauty of bootlegs is that they are effectively free to get hold of. I wouldn't mind if the compilation was bit more reasonably priced. A few quid would have been a bit nearer the mark but £10 is just taking the piss. If I was in a position to I'd love to flood the market with cheaper better produced CDs. That would be in the spirit of the origianl bootys. I'm actually pissed off with Rough Trade for stocking it in the first place. Bah!

i completely agree with this - people are just doing it for fun! i played a dsico track on my radio show [in the US] yesterday and explained to the listeners why they shouldn't be purchasing any of those CDs since the creators have made them readily available on the internet.

a store in philadelphia has had them waaay overpriced, still managed to sell out of them within a couple days. its great that people are paying attention, but the profit really benefits no one.

"note that comment: bootlegging bootlegs. ironic huh?"

Well, I suppose other people could bootleg the album, and then we'd have: a bootleg of a bootleg of a bootleg. :)

Boom Selection compil?

Aren't the Boom Selection crowd supposed to be doing a 3 disc CD-ROM filled with mp3s themselves? I presume though, they'll have asked people's permission before including their stuff.
