Not sure about the people here, but I saw a BBC program about piracy not long ago, and there was a bootlegger in it who owned a club somewhere (hey maybe he visits this board?), anyway he used a mixture of stuff but for bootlegs had a PC there to play out the Mp3s.
Not sure but I think he probably had already set the cues and stuff on it so it ran itself fine.

Personally I wouldn't like to entrust any part of a live set to a PC, probably fall down on its arse from some error.

Aye, the famous Optimo.

They once played Pump up the Jam there - recorded the audience singing along and then played back the sample of the audience singing along while the audience sang along to themselves singing along to Technotronic.

Phew. My mate says you can hear him clearly on the mp3 of it which is available somewhere but I cannot say where ;>

either rip them 2 cd or if using a laptop out live I use:

PCDJ Red > http://www.pcdj.com < u need 2 soundcards to cue but IMHO is the way forward.

other pc mp3 mixers:

OTSJuke: > http://www.otsjuke.com < good but you have to convert the mp3's to another format.

DSS DJ > http://www.myxoft.com/features.html < could be a classic as its cheap and auto matches BPM, the only problem I had was that it crashed my PC (PC or Apps fault Im not sure)

or you could use 2 winamps and a good crossfader plug-in

hope that helps

oh BTW for my radio shows I :

1 just play direct from winamp (needed to upload the shoutcast stream to the server.

2 have a second PC running PCDJ Red patched into a mixing desk then feed to the main PC running the stream.

3 If I'm feeling lazy I often mix 2 or 3 tunes in acid and play them as one mp3 file via winamp

I also know of djs who have 2 decks running into winamp, but I'm not a vinyl junkie anymore so can't be arsed - If I need a tune from vinyl I'll rip it to mp3.

re dj'ing bootlegs ...

i burn them onto cd then play then through my CD J 1000's .

im looping things , playing them backwards ...spinning them on my bum ( well maybe not that bit ) ..

I play boots all the time .

Did a party the other week and the biggest song of the night by far was Tones ( ultra 396) Public dancefloor . im doing one of those Club type parties in Aug and will be playing Boots for three hours ...

Im a bit over Eminem now and have stopped downloading any eminem boots .

Loved Pimp daddy Supremes Eminem cos he used the Instrumental as opposed to the vocals ( actually he used that too) ....

in some clubs people are so hot for booties that you
keep the party with only 1 cd player rocking(many clubs have not 2 players)
my solution is to put the tracks you wanna play on one cd and skip track by track.
it worked well, i tried in several clubs (berlin)
and you will have enough time to checkout the ladies..8-)
mixing with leggies makes no really sense for me because then you enter in "a best of popmusic discotek mode" and people will feel after a certain time like being on a fun fair or listening to these "best of mixes" available on every peer to peer service in your
neighbourhood.

. also i think people that love boots give really a shit about mixing skills. its better then to put these skills into productions..
(my opinion, djing since a few years)

Can't you get the track cut on acetate? Then you can just play them as records. I'm not sure how much this costs. But my Turntablist friends do this all the time to make their 'battle' records. Problem is they don't last too long.

My mistake, I just remembered seeing him show how a booty could be made (he showed madonna over kylie) and it was a close up of a screen running what looked like Acid or some other wave editing/whatever software, I assumed it was a PC.

It all means the same anyway.

you'd need a very good soundcard with at least three stereo outs or three soundcards.

deck 1, deck 2, and monitor.

you can do it with acid pro, if you have the tracks prepped and know their foibles.

ableton, though, looks and feels right for live use.
final scratch too.
