Corporate Killing Laws Strengthened, 23rd March 05.
http://www.number-10.gov.uk/output/Page7387.asp
Does this apply to Pfizer, Lilly and GSK who are the companies who coded suicidality and homicidality as "NAUSEA" ?
Or to the MHRA where there's plenty of evidence about complicity in ignoring warnings given to them, or to the numerous others who lied and misled about the "clinical efficacy" and "the safety" of drugs by writing and/or ghostwriting on behalf of the pharmaceutical industry. That of course includes scientists 'psychiatrists' and so on?
Anyway, back to the web article. I've got a question on three paragraphs which I'll alter some to avoid any possible problems regarding copyright laws:
'....the new thingy (or wotsit) contains a spoken idea (near enough) to make a criminal case that will be applied when a victim has been killed because bosses failed in a gross way to take what is known as reasonable care about the safety of their workers or others.
This kinda overcomes the major problem with the law thats around at the moment , speaks the Government - the desire to tell with imagery/movie (I'm struggling here lol) that an umarried individual (sort of) at the top of his company tree has any responsibility or punishment or goes to prison whatseover for killing people before any legal action can be taken against the .. um...firm....'
'...Corporate manslaughter is a crime done (near enough) by organisations rather than people within it and will therefore only mean an easy getout of paying their way out of it, rather than go to prison where they should be...' I think thats probably a fair interpretation?
SO... organisation itself does it?
ANY ORGANISATION IS MADE UP OF INDIVIDUALS.
Its individuals make the decisions. Indviduals alone and sometimes in a group decide whether they are going to falisify findings. One or several individuals inside an organisation decide whether to push a drug that kills, or endorse a drug that kills.
To allow individuals who make a conscious decision to do something that they know will harm others to hide beneath the cover of "corporate crime', and remain unpunished, IS TOTALLY WRONG.
WHAT deterrent is it to corrupt, murdering, psychopathic individuals in in the Pharmaceutical Industry to know that they MIGHT get a strong fine but be allowed to carry on... when fines imposed on them in the past for various other misdemeanours (fraud, that kinda thing) have been PEANUTS to their profits.
What deterrent is it even if a company was closed down, if the corrupt, murdering psychopathic individuals within remain unpunished and free to join the next organisation on their list?
Killers are not simply corporations or organisations. Thats dehumanising their responsibility.
KILLERS ARE INDIVIDUALS. CONSCIOUS, DECISION-MAKING HUMAN BEINGS THAT EXIST WITHIN CORPORATIONS and ORGANISATIONS.
So just another fine really, which is nothing but small change to some of the wealthiest companies in the world?
ARE YOU GOING TO CRIMINALLY PROSECUTE THOSE PEOPLE WHO KNOWINGLY PUT A DRUG ONTO THE MARKET WHERE SUICIDALITY AND HOMICIDALITY WERE SHOWN TO OCCUR IN THEIR CLINICAL STUDIES?

Or is this just more of the same old thing situation.
Its no good saying this is part of a wider plan to put victims first and protect the public (as it says near the bottom of the webpage) - cos people like us are bound to ask...when would that be, and isn't there an election due...which could be thought of as the political Delivery Room for the birth of Broken Promises (I suppose it could be called the Labour Room at the moment)?
You could AND SHOULD have done something ages ago, and COULD have done something MORE EFFECTIVE today?
I know it must be hard now you have opted to share (or should that be exchange) values with US pharmapolitics but some of the voting public's lives actually count on...
AN ENTIRELY NEW APPROACH TO THE MHRA and THE CORRUPTION OF THOSE WITHIN IT. Preferable to dispose of it and set up a drug regulatory body that CANNOT become corrupt.
AN ENTIRELY NEW APPROACH TO THOSE 'INSIDE' CORPORATIONS WHO ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR DEATHS OF THE PUBLIC. Preferably to cut that ever lengthening umbilical cord between government and the pharmaceutical drug industy. You might bleed a lot, but it woudn't KILL you. AS IT STANDS IT DOES KILL OTHERS.
You've tentatively put one toe on the floor to test the temperature of the floor.. NOW HOW ABOUT YOU JUMP OUT OF BED (THE ONE YOU SHARE YOUR VALUES IN), PUT YOUR SHOES ON AND DO SOMETHING EFFECTIVE!
FOOTNOTE: "...The ABPI operates out of two offices. The Whitehall office has a staff of 60 and is shared with the ABPI-created group, the Prescription Medicines Code of Practice Authority. ABPI Scotland, based in Edinburgh, was set up in 1999 in order to lobby the new Scottish Parliament.... The ABPI has also formed a 'Wales Industry Group' in response to the perception that “despite the limited powers of the National Assembly for Wales, devolution was leading to the development of a distinctive health policy agenda in Wales”. ..
Government backing
The pharmaceutical industry blossoms in the UK because of the existence of a highly favourable business climate, created by the Government at the request of the industry. The industry prospered under the Conservative government and can now count on the support of Prime Minister Tony Blair who describes the pharmaceutical industry as 'a prime example of what is needed in a successful knowledge economy' and praises the industry because of 'its very substantial contribution to our economy and the welfare of our citizens'. Blair adds: 'We must work together to ensure that the future of the UK pharmaceutical industry is even brighter'...
...Pushing for advertising rules to be relaxed
The ABPI has long been lobbying for relaxation of the regulations governing promotion and advertising of prescription medicine. After the US Food and Drug Administration changed its rules to allow direct-to-consumer (DTC) marketing in 1997 the ABPI began its campaign for DTC marketing in Britain and Europe... http://www.corporatewatch.org.uk/profiles/abpi/abpi.htm
So really, there's no chance of any criminal action against the Pharmaceutical Industry WHATSOEVER. The Labour Room simply gave birth today, thats all.
