My dd, 7, Atypical Asperger's, FAE, lots of LD, OCD, probable schizophrenia always sleeps with sheets about the size of receiving blankets -- they're her comfort item. Lately she has taken to tying knots in them & the last two nights has tied several together to a shelf above the head of her bed & been sticking her head through them. I am looking for suggestions. My sense is that this is driven by a combination of sensory issues -- she loves the feel of the sheets -- and OCD -- she loves tying knots, but I don't know how to handle it. If we take her sheets away, she will be unhappy & I suspect will then use items of clothing or her regular bedding for the same purpose. Any one have any similar experiences or suggestions? She currently takes Zoloft for OCD, Zyprexa at bedtime to help with sleep, Tegretol as a mood stabilizer, and Risperdal for some thinking that the doc considered psychotic. TIA She is the apple of my eye & it breaks my heart to think of her hurting herself.
