But he did not fight it either. I first started thinking about homeschooling when my son was in 3rd grade. I got NO support from hubby, and the extended family was very much against it. I decided in 5th grade it would be best but hubby said no. In 7th grade I said I was taking him out no matter what--I would not let the school do further damage to my child. At that point, hubby did not fight me, but his parents did. We homeschooled anyway. By one year later his parents were homeschoolings biggest fans.
Now, I will say that I did not face the additional problems of learning disabilities. Yes, I think parents know best. If you have learned to deal with your children's individual problems, I do think you will be their best teacher. But only you can decide how far to go without your husband's support. Support is one thing. And you can probably do without it. But if he actively opposes homeschooling, it will set up strife in your home that will not be good for the children. Some gentle education about homeschooling over the summer is my recommendation. |
