I'm tutoring a little boy who has been diagnosed as having a visual/spatial deficit as well as some ADHD characteristics. The ADD thing isn't a big problem for me, but since my own boys are at the other end of the spectrum (highly visual) I need some new approaches and techniques that will help this child grasp math concepts.

He's in third grade, and we've just started with multiplication.

Thanks for any and all ideas.

Melissa

HI,
You could look into Touch Math. It is a bit pricey but you might find it used. It is a program the schools use. There are dots on numbers and the system uses the dots to do math. Semple Math is a program also used for LD kids. They are at http://StevensonSemple.com/ If he is just having trouble with math facts, there are cards which have stories to remember them. They are at www.citycreek.com
You could also check at LD on Line and see if they list anything specific for spatial or visual problems. They are a great free resourse. They are at www.ldonline.org/
Things have been busy, Nick is working on his Eagle project. He is doing a video about Asperger's.
