While Phill isn't innocent in all of this . .

. . to claim that he did a good job in discouraging people from going to Cancun, and opting to go to Puerto Rico, is kind of ridiculous.
When Phill first started sending out the e-mails, the focus was on the gang killings going on in Mexico. People pretty much laughed that off. The consensus was that people supposedly didn't even know who Phill, or whatspoppincentral.com even was, and that nothing was going to deter them from going to Cancun. That's why I made this cartoon about Phill and the Cancun people, making fun of the situation.
But if people didn't even know who he was, how could he discourage people from going to an event like the CJO, when people were already committed to going to it? Especially seeing how popular CJO is?
What was happening though, was that CNN reported on those drug killings in Mexico a good two weeks straight. His e-mails were nothing, compared to the actual news reports that we all saw that was going on down there.
Who you gonna believe most? Phill . . or Anderson Cooper running around with the Mexican police, telling him how bad ish is down there?
The same goes for the Swine Flu thing in April. And by this time, if people haven't committed to going to Cancun, they probably weren't going in the first place.
Once again . . who was more influential in the decision for some people to decide not to go to Cancun?
a) Phill, and his e-mails, that were repeating the news reports that all of us were seeing for almost three weeks straight about Mexico and swine flu?
b) CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta, who was down in Mexico, with a mask on, in a virtually desolated Mexico City, telling people that they may want to hold off on any trips to Cancun?
c) The US goverment flat out telling Americans to rethink their travel plans to Mexico, even instituting a temporary ban to Mexico in early May?
d) b and c
From my perspective, if the Puerto Rico trip didn't live up to some of the people's standards, they're simply using Phill as a scapegoat for a Memorial Day trip that he ultimately had little to do with anyway.
A lot of you Cancun party people could've EASILY opted to go to Miami or Myrtle Beach, if you were looking for a party atmosphere. You may have not been in the prime hotels, but you would've been in the area/city, where all the action is. But instead, you made a CHOICE to go to Puerto Rico, and take a chance of going to that event in its first year of inception.
If some of you had a horrible time in P.R., just chalk that up as a loss, and move on.
But I bet if Phill DIDN'T send those e-mails out, all of you STILL wouldn't have gone to Cancun.
