PNG people should be concerned about Somare's latest moves to turn the
business interests of PNG into Somare Inc.


IPBC controls all of the PNG government's interests including its 18%
ownership of Oilsearch. IPBC has now been put under the supervision of
Arthur Somare even though Michael Somare is the caretaker Minister for
that portfolio.

Somare has now appointed Glen Blake to IPBC Board and appointed Sana
Somare, his eldest son, to PNG Power Board.

Glen Blake is the Managing Director of the Somare family companies Damai
Investments and SBA Constructions Ltd.

Sana Somare is the Managing Director of SBA Construction, a small
contractor company in Wewak.

Sana and Glen Blake are directors on the boards of these two companies
with all the other somare children.

SBA stands for Sana, Bertha and Arthur construction.
By appointing Blake and Sana to the different boards of the statutory
enterprises and IPBC under control of Arthur, Somare is turning IPBC and

PNG Government's business interests into "Somare Inc."

Pacom partly owns B Mobile, Pacom is owned by Simon Kaiwi the President
of National Alliance Party (NA).

No wonder there is a lot of fuss about Digicel in PNG; these greedy
people will go out of business thru fair & square competition, so they

cannot rough it up with the big boys in this industry!

These stories will start getting moved around if you have something a bit more scandalous about the Somare family to attach to it.
Over the last years on pngscape one scandalous thing I've read is that eldest son Arthur allegedly had a man murdered who he discovered was seeing his wife, and has gotten away with the crime. I don't remember the dates or posting but within the last couple years. That posting is probably still somewhere on scape and maybe you can google it.

This happens everywhere not just in the somare govt. society is not meritocratic it's all about who you know where.
Beside what your preaching here about the somare govt is just about what happens in every govt in the world not just PNG. For example in Australia there is about 6 liberal party members(John Howard Supporters) on the Telstar board during John Howard's term put there by Johnnie himself, and majority of the justices of the High Court of Australia are all Liberal Party Supporters again put there by Johnnie and furthermore, current CEO's of BHP Billiton, Aust Wheat Board and Wesfarmers Pty Ltd and Texti Co are all full fledged liberal party and members (in particular John Howard supporters having a big say in having him stay on as leader and not Costello) ...... so would you claim that the John Howard in their pervious term in govt. was taking over the court system and telecommunication and minerals sector of the country?????

If you don't like him or his leadership, well why don't you write to him, after all Papua New Guinea is a democratic country and you have the right to be heard.

At the end of the day you won't accomplish anything but still will be bad mouthing and making yourself "ANGRY".

I believe that Papua New Guinea would be a better place to live in, if only people like you could have respect for one another and leaders of our Nation, after all Papua New Guinea voted him to lead this Nation.

Ginzy, get your frigin facts right...PNG did not vote in Somare, its the Sepiks plus the 70 MPs who voted for him. The rest of PNG (majority) were fooled by these 70 MPs who conned them that they were gonna change Somare. To name a few, look at guys who were very active before the elections to the extent of making public their intentions in full page newspaper advertisments but have so far gone into hiding...people like Jamie Maxtone Graham, Peter O'neil, Peter Ipatas, Luther Wenge,...these are guys who said they were gonna change Somare and hence were catapulted into their current positions but when they got in, thy did a complete U-turn. Now, we don't even read about them in the news because they are hiding because of embarassment.
Anyway, why would I respect an arrogant old man who has no respect for the simple people of PNG. For some of us, respect is reciprocal; you give respect, you get respect. Its as simple as that. Besides this nation has given so much to the Somare clan than what Somare has given to PNG. Somare and his family have gotten rich from the perks of being PM and used that position to gain personally as well. That is, he's been knighted, given the rare chance to be printed on our currency, made a grand chief, and now his Missus is to be given an award for just being married to him and cooking his meals.
The simplest question some of us are asking is what more can Somare give/do for PNG that is new or would revolutionize the nation apart from what he has done over the donkey years he was at the top. We have seen what he did already and have rewarded him appropriately. Maybe its time for someone new to take over the reigns and to something that would revolutonise the country.

Your points are good but ,i'm sorry to tell you the bad news, there is nothing you or me can do about running of this country and solving the problems that arise or who gets the wealth and benefits, we all are strugling to surive too you know but maybe all we have to do is pray for the best and maybe have a little trust in the PM and respect the decision Parliament made eventhough if you are not a supporter, beacause after all and i will repeat..THERE IS NOTHING YOU AND I CAN DO, BUT JUST BE A GOOD CITIZEN OF PAPUA NEW GUINEA AND CONTINUE WITH YOUR DAILY LIFE.

Different people have different oppinions and views in how they see or percieve the world and politics and radi dadi .

I sometimes wonder, how would or what would Papua New Guniea be like if everyone had the same view or outlook in politics and basically everything going on in PNG?

Australians have a highly reputable watchdog taht scutinise the action of Public office holders and they are not influenced by any political nor the so called whom you know.
Don't make unreal comparisions as PNG and Australia are two different countries with different political ideology...

One of the majors problem we have in PNG is that 80% of the population lack formal education. Until the 80% is educated, the nation will learn who to vote into Parliament, the health and welfare of the nation will also improve if more than 90% of the population is educated.

Independent media should play a vital role to informally educating our people about all this corrupt practices.

A similar situation of what the Somare familly/Cronies/Selfish Parlamentarians running the country down happen in Antigua a small Caribbean Island nation for years. Everything in Antigua was under the control of the Bird family and its cronies, until the opposition open a new radio station and started educating it's people about the Bird family and its Cronies corrupt practises, the Bird empire fall during the election as a result of radio station educating its people.

I believe PNG could do the same through independent media. I suggest all NGO groups in PNG should pull their resources together and own a SW radio station to educate our people about all issues affecting our country.

Bro I agree to what you've mentioned but that wont happen so suddenly. Lets get other pngan engaged in such forums and discuss issues openly and let the public know. After reading the postings on this forum I dont have a great opinion about somare(s)

I'm sure the one of the somares or their wantoks must have read all this!!!
