I've been accepted to Sint Eustatius, and set to start in August 2004. But I have a lot of unanswered questions and I'm hoping someone can help me out. So here are my questions:
* I've never gone away for school. How hard is it trying to get settled/use to the life in Statia?
* Also, am I really 100% guaranteed for clinical rotations here in the U.S.? And what about doing residencies? I had read that some schools/hospitals don't recognize caribbean MD graduates. Is that true?
* I plan to keep in touch with my family here in the U.S. I had read that prepaid cellular phones are now available on the island. But what about bringing my own cell phone and using GSM network? Do GSM phones work on the island?
* I was also thinking of doing the 4 term Basic Sciences program, as opposed to the 5 term program. Is that advisable?
* Finally, one of the things I found appealing with applying to an international medical school is the cost of tuition. I also recently read that I would be in as much debt as if I went to a U.S. school? Is this true?
I would greatly appreciate anyone who can help answer all these questions for me.
