Entropy would continue to increase if the universe began to collapse. As Hawking writes, "[assuming the universe will collapse,] there must be well-defined thermodynamic [ie, entropy] and cosmological [ie, expansion] arrows of time, but they will not point in the same direction for the whole history of the universe."
