Re: Chandler.......by (Login -llipse)>> Where in the Bible does it say that we are Gods hands? For I know that the LORD is great, and that our Lord is above all gods. Whatever the LORD pleases, he does, in heaven and on earth, in the seas and all deeps. He it is who makes the clouds rise at the end of the earth, who makes lightnings for the rain and brings forth the wind from his storehouses (Psalm 135:5-7). Who has spoken and it came to pass, unless the Lord has commanded it? Is it not from the mouth of the Most High that good and bad come? (Lamentations 3:37-38) Job 42:2 Daniel 4:34-35 Psalm 33:10-11 Psalm 115:3 Proverbs 16:33 Isaiah 46:9-10 Amos 3:6 Matthew 8:27 Matthew 10:29 Mark 1:27 Acts 4:27-28 Revelation 17:17 "Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you" (Matthew 6:25-33). Now, I know you probably meant something more along the lines of, "Where in the Bible does it say we have no responsibility of our own?" In which case, the reply is "nowhere". But the overwhelming theme of these and countless other verses is that everything, ultimately, is in God's hands. Nothing that happens happens apart from the will of God. That of course does not mean we should be idle. Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord (Romans 12:11). What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, be warmed and filled," without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead (James 2:14-17). Knowing that God is in control and that everything will work to his glory should give Christians more zeal to take action because we know that anything wrought in God is not in vain. ------- ållipse |
