Random Musings on Dealing with a Boring Job

by PhyloGenesis (no login)

Decide on something to do after work. Look forward to it, and think of work as just the intermittent period before you get to try it. Work is just the setup/preparation, you have to do some non-fun work before you get to indulge in enjoyable things.

What can you learn from/practice at your job that you can use outside the workplace?

Tell yourself repeatedly (once you decide you really believe it to be true) that it really isn't that bad. We all know it could be worse, but is it realistically BAD or is it just not good? When you feel like it's bad tell yourself that it isn't, and remind yourself that you already thought it through, and you already knew how you felt when you were doing what you're doing now, and you still decided it isn't that bad.

Consider it a challenge to overcome. The toughest challenge any human will ever face is that of time. Time defeats everything, nothing lasts forever, but you CAN have the willpower to last a very long time. Fighting something that slowly drains you with boredom and apathy instead of something that requires strong force of physical or mental will is a completely different fight, but it can still be won. Resolve to strengthen the endurance of your will, not just its initial force. If it's something you don't HAVE to do, remember that you decided to do it and can it hurt to build endurance? It's likely that someday you'll find yourself in a situation where you need to do something long and tedious, and you'll need that endurance.
