About Australian gun laws...by TheBOB (Login qb432l)
I was once in contact with someone who liked my Colt carving...
He put me onto a website in Australia where a former gunsmith did incredible full-size replicas of these old percussion revolvers. The difference was, they were all finished in natural wood, since the gun laws prevented him from making them look like real weapons. You'd think those kinds of strict gun laws would make a difference.
The real reason they were effective at all, as far as handguns were concerned at any rate, is that unlike the States, there isn't much of a market for illegal firearms in Australia. No easily crossed borders and a long way to ship--especially if you're not even sure you can get them into the country. The same laws in the US wouldn't work.
