Its actaually trippled! But it's because the goverment used to help pay for the running of universities, that has all stopped so uni's have to find the funds elsewhere.
Its £9000 a year just for the course, then there's about £5000 a year in rent, about the same in living expense so £19000 a year, most courses are 3 years so £57,000 for a degree! And then when you've got it you have no real experience and join the ranks of the 2.7 million unemployed people.
The best scandal we had lately was people claiming incapacity benefit (free rent, council tax, water, £200 cash a week and a mobility scheme where the goverment pay for a car for you(special case only)). They recently looked at everyone claiming and 3/4's of them were not actually entitled to the benefit!
My country is as F'd as any one else's, did you hear about france banning muslim women from wearing their ninja face masks in public! Thats a great story right now!
