When i try to install the game, an error pops up at the first disk involving the HDAssets and a file called y456.dlg. It says to refer to online help (error -106), but i can't seem to find the online page, i'm guessing its no longer operating. Anyway, after the error, it will continue to install the game, but will not play it when its done, nothing happens at all.
Much to the dismay of all of us our webmaster and the person most likely to be able to help you died just a few weeks ago.
I'm not able to help but can suggest that you go to the little brown buttons at the top of the home page and click on Tech Support. You will hopefully find the information you need there.
welcome to our site, sorry to hear you have problems. I've just done a search here on my work machine running Win98 for your y456.dlg with no avail. Dunno what that is then!
I'm relying on past histories here - are you installing on a laptop? SST and most other games I gather do NOT like laptops
What processor is your machine? Pentiums are best, Cyrix 686 has a problem, 586 just won't work.
What Operating System are you running? XP I gather needs to run in compatibility modes.
I would recommend you make sure your graphic driver is the latest. I also gather from another post that turning Audio Hardware Compression OFF also helps.
Please let us know how you get on, good luck starshipmate
thanks for responding, i am running a pc, not a laptop, it is a k6 233, 48mb ram, i'm not sure how to check the video card though, i did the cd copy recommended in the tech support onto a junk file, and had an error matching up the copy with the original, 1 file did not copy, does this mean i have a media problem? the cd itself is in perfect shape so i'm not sure how this could happen
hmm, 1 file not copied? I wonder if that is y456.dlg? I've no longer got my Starship Titanic CD set or I'd do a search to see if that file is part of the setup. I know there are a lot of seemingly redundant files in there. Can't quite place the K6 architecture - is that up to Pentium? No sign of that processor mentioned in the tech support I looked through. Clutching at straws here but if you can find that file on the CD, try copying to your C:\Windows\System folder?
I'm afraid I'm away from the PC for a week but fingers crossed someone else can come up with more ideas.
Good luck
