I have a pop-up stopper too

November 12 2003, 5:57 AM

but it is not stopping this pop-up.

At least since I logged in it is smaller so that it doesn't take up most of the screen because it is immoveable and the only way to get rid of it is to leave the forum.

Message from Network54 Admin

It is a new ad that is (hopefully) going to pay for a large hardware upgrade for Network54. You might even say that we are spending it already, as we have received a couple of new servers in the mail today...

At any rate, it has a frequency cap (currently) of only once per month, which is not to bad really. Of course, while you are logged into your premier (or select) account, you should not see it. Were you logged in when you saw it?

With IE6 SP2 coming out with built in popup blockers, I think takeover ads will proliferate.

Also, it says "sometime in the future this site will be blocked by this page and you may be denied site access" which is not true. I guess that it is true in a sense, since they use the word "may". Things to be worked out I guess. At any rate, it is really the opposite: people that signup for the EntryPass will get extra features than those who do not, that's all.

The Bravenet Twins

November 12 2003, 4:56 PM

LOL - the Bravenet Twins are in a bit of trouble at the moment - so what is new about that.

I have installed (at this stage) three Bravenet hit counters on a very private family page on my web site. The page has only one hidden external link although it can be found with the correct key words by a search engine.

So far I have found myself with three shared hit counters. Not sure what the first one was - the other party deleted that one. The second one was shared with a language school in Pakistan and eventually, after complaining to Bravenet, I deleted that one. The third one was to a geocities site which was full of links so I didn't bother to find out which link had the counter on its page and I finally got an apology (AN APOLOGY !!!!!) from Bravenet - shouldn't have happened/referred it to our technicians etc. I deleted that one as well and haven't been game to try again as so far the technicians haven't come up with the answer.

The counters on the other sites were all paid ones so the owners can't have been very pleased when I kept zeroing the counters whenever they showed a link from inside my family section.

But I must confess that I am thinking rather fondly of their forums - lots of pop-ups but I have a program which kills those so they are not too troublesome.

Those funny Twins...lol..

November 12 2003, 10:33 PM

They lost my Barbie photo album...among other things.

Even I, their tallest fan, can't understand how they could give a counter to more than one client. What a mess, indeed!

Makes one believe that they are blonde.

scratching their heads

November 13 2003, 12:20 AM

This is what they actually said:

>>Hello, we have looked into this further, and the Counter is on the page below:
http://www.geocities.com/h4digital/index.html

This is very strange due to the Counter being displayed having the same Counter ID, but being in a different Bravenet account. These should not be the same Counter. These accounts are completely different but have the exact same Counters registered.

We are forwarding this information to our technical department so that this can be looked into. We will notify you once we receive word from them regarding this issue.

Thank you for your patience, and we apologize for this inconvenience. <<

They lost my photo album too - I'd spent many hours getting it just right - 94 photos. I haven't bothered to re-do it.
