My little garden

I have a little garden at the back of my little bungalow. I'm not one for doing a lot of work in it, being on the lazy side, but I do appreciate having one!

I cut the grass this afternoon, as it was a beautiful day, and did the washing and other bits of housework.
So tonight I sat in my garden, just as the day was drawing to a close. The sky was mainly turquoise with darker blue patches, promising another fine day to come. The moon was rising, a thin crescent high in the sky, with Venus beginning to shine brighter as the sky slowly darkened. There were birds singing, liquid notes in the still night air, and the scent of the newly-cut grass mingling with the beautiful perfume of the wallflowers. It was so beautiful and peaceful, with just a hint of a chill.

It was one of those times when 'all's right with the world' a time to step back and appreciate the simple beauty of an ordinary garden. A time of waiting too, as the beauty of Summer is not yet fully revealed. One of the joys of England, the seasons catching you by surprise as Spring slowly blossoms into Summer.

I was also thinking of WordSmith too, especially when he had to tread on my newly-planted wallflowers to put my new fence up! He was very apologetic, and I did wonder if they would survive! But they did, and are gorgeous this year! I'm sure he's sprinkled some magic growing powder on them!

Well, I won't bore you any longer, LOL! but I did just want to share my little garden with you all Take care, and see you soon

peaceful quietness... isn't it then that something strange happens... a starship bumps into your house, the cat is hunting bats (you've sedated your little tiger yesterday, right?) or the moon rises at western horizon... well..
But I agree, spring is a really amazing time of year, not only in Britania.

A lovely picture indeed! Thanks to you both. I miss the British sunset and sunrise descriptions I used to receive on a daily basis.

The view from my back patio, where I like to have my morning coffee, is peaceful too. The rose bushes, trees, and assorted flowers are in bloom now. (However, here in our mild winters something is blooming year around...achoo!) The Golden California Poppies remind me of days spent dancing in the cool ocean sand...lol...a bit different from the hot desert sand.

We, like the flowers, must bloom where we are planted. That makes memories of days gone by even more special. I try not to forget that each day we live we are going to be part of someone else's memories some day. That's comforting and scary at the same time.

We are sort of into autumn here

April 25 2004, 7:10 PM

But although the weather is a bit cooler (30 degrees Celcius for the past few days) we have had almost no rain at all this year and are looking to having a very dry winter.

I'm going away in just over a week and am in something of a dilemma regarding my garden. It is reticulated but if it finally rains it is a dreadful waste of water to keep watering the garden.

On the other hand I can't let my plants die so the hanging baskets will all have to be put down in the garden where they can be watered until I get back and assess the situation.

Fingers crossed that they will survive.

The worms are easy - heaps of newspaper will keep them happy intil I get back.

My little cats will have to go to boarding school and that is the worst of going away - I hate boarding them out.

Thought you might like to know that the rose bushes that many of you sent for WordSmith last July are all doing well, lots of new growth and fresh green leaves.

My thoughts are with you all.

Ah, these descriptions of gardens around the world, as one half enters Spring, the other half enters Autumn. A kind of continuum, a reminder that when it's Winter in your half of the world, it's Summer in the other

Hi Maxine, in case you drop in again

you may remember...

April 28 2004, 11:53 AM

I had a new conservatory built last year, well it's well established now and feels like part of the family. I sit out there and sew most days, it's warm and cozy even in the winter. Out in the garden my vivid blue ceanothus (sp) is in full bloom with the flower heads nodding in the breeze, I can almost see the the grass growing and the warm air is curling around my feet, or is that the cat?

A couple of things for people to know, Katy has returned home to live (with her partner) for a time until they can find a flat in this area.

I have Multiple Sclerosis, I'm not sure why I'm telling you this, except I feel comfortable with you people and it's not easy to tell everyone. Maybe this is a first step to telling others.

Ed, I'm pleased you have the stewardship of this place, take care of it, it is precious.

love to you all,
Ruth x

Ruth - I realise that it is cold comfort to you when I say that there are worse things to have. All the neurological diseases are devastating and having to come to terms with a chronic, progressive, illness is one of the hardest things we are asked to do.

I'm sure that you know already that some MS remains on a fairly benign course - I hope that is so for you.

Thank you for being brave enough to tell us about it.

Sometimes ...

April 28 2004, 2:29 PM

Some say friensdship cannot exist in internet... where else do i ask... Seldom I've come so 'close' to strangers like in this ship.
But why on earth does this ship take every damned iceberg on its way?

Your conservatory sounds wonderful, and peaceful...bringing the outdoors indoors....bringing Mother Nature inside the house. Many people here have what is called an "Arizona Room". It must be very much like your conservatory.

I'm sure you enjoy having Kat back home again, and I'm sure you know that balancing two households, even though it is beloved family, takes a lot of finesse and patience...lol...most of all love. It did for me anyway.

Ruth, my friend, my best wishes, love and prayers are with you. I believe that sharing with friends multiplies our strength, and gives us comfort knowing that others care. God Bless!

hello Ruth, I am so sorry to hear about the MS. I hope it's as Minnie says and it doesn't get too severe. Say Hi to Katy, and I hope she is doing ok. I do remember the conservatory when it was being built
Take care

Where else?

Can you go to see "Gardens around the world"? What a special special place this is!

In Colorado, we are in the midst of what we call "springtime in the Rockies". This is a VERY CRUEL season. One day, the sun shines down and the smells of springtime - Lilac, apple blossoms, and fresh grass - are overwhelming. The next day....SNOW! Thick snow that bends but doesn't quite break the beautiful tulips.

I am just learning the fun of planting things and seeing them come back the next year.

Thanks for sharing your gardens!
