15-1-2005 - Saturday
Dear Diary - sorry; I have been too busy to keep you up to date on what has been going on over the past couple of weeks. What with all the holidays and things it has been really stop/start at work and I've been too tired.
Peter is still in hospital but is slowly improving. The main problems are some loss of smell and I understand that this is very common with head injuries, he still had the double vision but that has been improved by wearing a patch over one eye. He is supposed to wear it over a different eye each day but he mostly wears it over the left eye which is his weakest - silly idiot; he should be spending the time exercising the weak eye while he has the chance. He is also complaining of a sore neck but he had a scan and there is nothing wrong. Personally I think that he is bored and is behaving like a typical male. Luckily no man will ever read what I am writing about men as patients.
His parents turned up safe and dry. They had decided that Phuket was too full of tourists so they drove inland to see some temples or something and because they were not reading any newspapers and were unable to speak the language they had no idea that anything had happened. They arrived back in Phuket to total devastation and eventually thought to let the authorities know that they were safe. There are still about 60 Australians unaccounted for but at least they are not among them anymore. Nobody has told Peter that they were assumed to be among those missing; he just thinks that they were lucky that their holiday took them to a safer place on the day.
And Mandy ... ? She is bewailing the fact that she is not going to be able to wear a string bikini by the end of the swimming season!!
