The third sentence is pretty much the same, except the action was already known to be not accomplished

I think the "otvet" is that the best translation is by the person who speaks English the best.

This is obviously something that could have been done, but wasn't. You can't say this in a non-perfective aspect in my opinion.

Ja zdelal robotu.
because "Ja delal robotu" would mean that you didn't necessarily complete it. But the English sentence means that you have.
