A UFO OVER SANTA FE?

It was photographed by a colleague by sheer chance. At 21:20 hours on September 20th, in the northern part of the city, as he was taking photos of the movements and effects caused in the sky by the searchlight employed during the Sixth Biennial Youth Art Festival held at the U.N.L. That was when a light crossed his path.

He didn't know what it was until he saw the 17 photos taken. Upon enlarging them, he realized that it was a solid object with a metallic center. Even though his camera was set for maximum definition and sharpness, he could notice a wake.

In other photos taken of the searchlight, a ray of light could be seen coming down from above. This appeared to the right of the event mentioned. The enlarged photo shows the details mentioned. The other shows the actual site where the photo was taken--the roof of a neighbor's house. Was it a UFO inspecting the searchlight or just a trick of nature?

See picture here.

ALIENS SAVED FAMILY FROM COLLISION TO PROTECT PREGNANT WOMAN
**Incredible story of a Chilean abducted along with his family at Cuesta El Melón**

At first glance it is evident that Gabriel D.H. is an honest, laid-back man. Far removed from the hubbub and keeper of a low profile. At 44, he has no interest whatsoever in appearing on television for a minute of glory.

It took an effort to get him to share with "La Cuarta" the feverish experience he had at Cuesta El Melón while returning by car from a trip to the north of the country, fearing that he and the three family members who were passengers in his car that day would be identified and possibly harmed in their places of study and business. Consorting with "bad company" usually involves discrimination...worse if they're aliens.

To psychiatrist Mario Dussuel, a specialist in abductions (the kidnapping of human beings by aliens) for three decades, Gabriel's story isn't the result of a pathology nor a complete loss of marbles. "I've studied the case for years. I've subjected it to a variety of screening tests and hypnotic regressions, and we have found several patterns indicating the presence of strange situations in his story. Even though others may not believe it, he truly underwent the story he tells."

Prior to his abduction, Gabriel had never had contact with the subject of UFOs, with hard science fiction or with stories claiming that guardian angels from distant galaxies protect certain "chosen" Earthlings for reasons best known to them.

"The fact is that the subject never appealed to me. What's more--I detested it because I didn't believe that such strange things could exist," remarked the convert.

- So what really happened, Gabriel?

- We were on the way back to Santiago when we suddenly entered an area covered by a strange yellow fog and the car started weaving like a boat in a storm. Suddenly, one of the three women traveling in the back seat screamed in horror that someone had just sat down between them.

(He made them quiet down, since he had all of his attention on controlling the vehicle, which seemed just about to fly off the road. He had goosebumps all over. He couldn't explain what was happening.)

- Did you see anything?

- Not at that time, no. I was concerned with controlling the car. It was all very strange. I got nervous when I percieved that while the car seemed to slip away from my hands, we had been boarded by invisible presences and they were among us.

- Did you notice anything else?

- My hands became transparent. I saw the steering wheel through them.

- Could you see the road?

- No, the fog was very dense.

- Later on, did you see the aliens?

- Yes.

- What were they like?

- Stunning and very tall.

- Did you feel fear?

- No, and don't think that I consider myself brave or anything. The problem is that I'm very hardheaded when I want to find something out or uncover something I don't understand.

- Were they violent?

- No. They acted forcefully, but inspiring trust and tranquility.

- What was their mission?

- I don't know.

-Didn't you ask them?

- I can't recall...

- What information did the E.T.'s give you?

- I remember that they told me they had saved our lives, and if we hadn't been abducted, we would've died because we were about to have a head-on collision with a bus.

- Why do you think they did that?

- According to them, to save one of the women.

- Why?

- They showed some sort of hologram in which my car was shattered and everyone was dead and broken. The projection they made was spectacular, because with simple gestures they could increase the definition until they reached nearly microscopic points.

-And what was the purpose of this?

- The projection widened until [it showed] the womb of one of the women, containing a foetus.

- And that's why the passengers were saved?

- Just so...

- Was the foetus an E.T.?

- ... (silence)

- How old is that person today?

- A little over ten.

- Do you think that she is an E.T.?

- ...(silence)

- Is the girl special in any way?

- Don't pursue it, because I will not answer those questions.

- Are you afraid?

- Yes, but not of them. Rather, fear of the human beings who can cause tremendous harm to this person.

At the end of the experience, which lasted no more than 10 minutes, Gabriel and his family appeared in Calle Larga, over 100 kilometers away from where the fog appeared. This phenomenon is not unique to Chile or to the continent. What is unique about it is that one of its protagonists should step forward and retell it.

"YES, WE SAW A SPACECRAFT AT PANUL"

LA SERENA -- Information continues to arrive regarding the apparition of mysterious entities in the Coquimbo's Panul Sector (4th Region of Chile. We are reproducing the article featured in Thursday, September 2nd's Diario La Region de Coquimbo.

Yolanda Santibañez and Edmundo Ramírez both claim, and startle us, by saying that on the same week of the humanoid sighting in Coquimbo, whose account appears in yesterday's edition, an unidentified flying object flew over the the area.

While the brilliant afternoon sun slowly vanishes into a disquieting fog and a chill wind appears to herald a storm, silence reigns among residents of El Panul de Coquimbo regarding the "humanoid subject", as we could classify the chronicles published on Tuesday and Wednesday this week, and which describe the sighting last July by four individuals.

Yesterday, we wished to collect new eyewitness accounts in the same area, but it is evident that people are feeling panic, or at least fear of being ridiculed and criticised by their nearest and dearest.

At first we are told no, that the witnesses aren't home, that they themselves haven't seen anything, that it's all just tall tales...but they begin to relax when they realize that spreading doubt isn't healthy either.

It was thus that REGION learned new information on this subject.

A pair of local residents who live on a property that serves as a repair shop at the edge of the highway told us that they have indeed seen strange things, and that they themselves saw some sort of flying saucer.

Yolanda Santibañez recalls that it was during the month of July in late afternoon hours that she and other witnesses observed a strange phenomenon in the skies, as she describes it.

"Yes, it was July, I couldn't tell you the exact date, but we saw an object in the sky near La Romana. It had an elongated shape, black or grey in color, and it shrank and expanded...it seemed to float while it assumed a square shape and when it remained like that, it seemed to have some things like wheels or such. At no time did we feel afraid, because we were accompanied."

She later adds other details and repeats them as though rewinding and reliving the events.

Edmundo Ramirez, another resident of the Panul sector, claims that such episodes occur repeatedly, and offered more details about them.

"The object we saw in July appeared suddenly. It made no noise, such as engine noise, for example. It was elongated, but kept getting longer and had no lights. The time was about 5 or 6 p.m.. Some other people who work here also saw it. It arrived as if from the north, passing slowly over the eucalyptus trees in the La Romana sector. Then it descended along that terrain as if heading toward the sea, and then vanished. Luckily it didn't approach us, and the dogs didn't bark either."

The sector [both witnesses] have indicated as the place where the vehicle disappeared is the same area indicated by the other witnesses claiming to have seen a small, glowing-red 80 cm. tall humanoid.

Eduardo Vega, his brother and two other workers of the Argandoña brick works are the witnesses to this event, which they have shared with the greatest respect and seriousness, which they hope will be reciprocated. The Vega brothers are professionals and workers of the cement factory are adult heads of household.

Numerous calls to our newsroom and the high demand for the newspaper are proof of popular interest in the subject. However, LA REGION shall reserve the right to publish only those accounts given by people of known identity.

PERU: UFO PRESENCE "DELIGHTS FARMERS"

Several strange lights in the sky drew the attention of peasants from Rapayán, Uco, Paucas and Anra in the province of Huari (Perú). The collective farmers celebrated the arrival of the alleged UFOs because they took them as a sign of good fortune and because they foretold a good harvest. Local police are investigating the source of the lights, but have not found any leads.

MEXICO: Another UFO Reported, this time over Progreso

PROGRESO. Members of the Centro de Análisis de Fenómenos Espaciales (Space Phenomena Analysis Center) have pointed out that cases involving people who claim having seen unidentified flying objects are fairly common in the Yucatan Peninsula, but they are never widely known due to a lack of diffusion.

Cindy Martínez Sánchez, a partner with this statewide organization, reports that the phenomenon was seen two nights ago not only over Ticul, but also over Progreso.

Many residents of the Vicente Guerrero neighborhood were witnesses to a mysterious cloud with a light that appeared and vanished in the southern reaches of the port, she says. The sighting lasted some five hours.

MEXICO: MORE MYSTERIOUS LIGHTS OVER TICUL
Two youths record "flying object"**

For some weeks now, numerous residents of Ticul and even other municipalities in the area have made use of the hill that dominates the Benito Juarez neighborhood of La Perla del Sur as their nocturnal gathering place.

The reason for these gatherings has become a fashionable subject in this part of the State: alleged UFO sightings, a situation that has also attracted the attention of experts in supernatural phenomena.

There is no scientific explanation for these events; the alleged witnesses claim they are real, but other people in the vicinity consider them a product of the euphoric sensation experienced at the meeting site.

The fact remains that it a party atmosphere is readily visible on weekends at this site for at least a month now, including consumption of alcoholic beverages and the presence of street vendors.

This weekend, the UFO subject took a turn: two young men claimed having filmed the apparition of a mysterious "vessel" that was visible for only seconds.

The youths, with the characteristic excitement of those who have made a great discovery, showed the video of the alleged sighting to a reporter from Diario de Ticul. A circle of eight lights spinning on an axis can be seen; the lights then become tilted and elongated.

Suddenly, the mysterious object changes course and vanishes.

BRAZIL UFO FRAGMENT TO BE ANALYZED

The Technical-Scientific Department of the Piaui Police collected a chunk of an unidentifief flying object (UFO) that fell in the region after an explosion in the sky. The material shall be forwarded to the INPE (National Institute of Space Exploration) for a more thorough analysis. The Secretaray of State of Safety Matters, Menandro Pedro da Luz, has said that he himself verified the material collected and that it was no more than a piece of iron plate, measuring around one meter, that shows signs of heating possibly as a result of entering the Earth's atmosphere.

The Secretary was unable to say if there were signs of radiation on the object, but reported that the material is being sent to INPE for a more detailed analysis.

"There is an office at INPE at Navidad, in Rio Grande do Norte, or the one in Sao Luis, in Maranhao, due to the Alcantara rocket launching site. They must identify the origin and nature of the material collected," he remarked.

The Delegate of Batalha, Police Sergeant Raimundo Nonato, known as "Sargento Cajura", was frightened by the arrival of the car from the Technical-Scientific Police department to collect the object. The local population has visited the police precinct to assuage its curiosity about the object that exploded in the sky, causing a loud report and a flash in the early hours of Sunday morning. He has information that other pieces of the same material are scattered between the cities of Barras and Batalla.

ALLEGED UFO EXPLODES OVER BRAZIL

The explosion of an unidentified flying object (UFO) in northern Brazil on Sunday morning and made known today shall be investigated by scientific and police authorities, according to local radio.

In Brasilia, accoring to the El Dorado radio station, National Secretary of Defense Jorge Pimentel advised local residents to avoid contact with the object's remains.

The metallic parts of the object were scattered over the municipalities of Barras, Batalha and Piacurcuca in the northern state of Piaui, where residents heard a loud report and saw a sudden light in the sky, accoring to broadcast reports.

The first hypothesis on the explosion is that it is a satellite, according to police spokesman Raimundo Nonato from Batalha, who collected a piece 4 kilograms in weight and a meter long, whose impact caused a three meter hole.

From Teresina, the state capital, it was also possible to see the illumination caused by the blast, some 500 meters from the Alcantara Space Facility.

Nonato indicated that no injuries were reported in any of the three cities, while the Teresina airport noted that an airliner crew reported the strange situation after the explosion occurred.

Flying Saucer over the Region

Jorge Páez says that in the early hours of last Thursday morning he saw a strange object in the sky, adding that his wife and son were also witnesses.

Rojas resident Jorge Páez, who lives in the La Loma district, claims having seen an unidentified flying object (UFO) that was heading east of Rojas "behind some wilderness at the dog race track" parallel to Route 188.

"The time was approximately 6:00 a.m. when I was coming home from work and saw a flying saucer that approached and departed...a light that became increasingly larger before vanishing and appearing again [somthing it did] for some ten minutes, easily," he indicated.

"I left work and was on my way home, and I looked at as it came up, since I saw it from far away, from behind the trees in the wilderness of the dog race track," he said. "It came up from behind the eucalyptus trees."

"My kid has a spyglass and I was looking [at it] through it. It was as like a red ball that changed colors, becoming white, yellow...that moved in what appeared to be circles. It did that for about ten minutes then vanished," Páez said. "I was startled by what they were saying about 25 de Mayo (where a UFO supposedly appeared) and they spoke about the cold, and it was very cold last night. I saw it clearly."

"I'd never seen anything like it before. I woke up my wife and the kid so they'd see it. The kid didn't want to get up at first because he thought it was a lie. I woke him up so that he'd see it, and he also saw it."

"It looked like a light the size of the moon. That's all I saw, " he ended by saying.

ARGENTINA: UFO FILMED FOR 17 MINUTES AT COMODORO RIVADAVIA

A resident of Comodoro Rivadavia claimed having filmed an unidentified flying object (UFO) over Cerro Chenque, in the vicinity of this city of Chubut, last Friday morning. Marcelo Soto claimed that the object apparenly rested on that mountain and he was able to record it from his home in the Jorge Newberry neighborhood.

The film shows a phenomenon that is very similar to the one seen in recent days over Gobernador Ugarte (Pcia. de Buenos Aires), said Soto to a local FM radio station.

The image captured is "unedited, and from the center of the luminous sphere, which changes colors, it can be seen how other lights emerge from within."

"I didn't know what it was, but it attracted my attenion. I wanted to have the best possible image and that's why I left the camera alone, pointing to where the UFO was, and theyn I connected [the camera] to the TV set. That's when I got scared," he added.

"The object approached and receded. There was some kind of light in the center of the sphere that changed color and something that really drew my attention: other lights come out of the center of the circle toward the side."

In this regard, the director of Comodoro Rivadavia's airport, Roberto Romero, explained that Air Force radars "have not recorded any sightings of any luminous objects, nor have aircraft reported anything like it" in recent days, adding: "If now they say there's a video on the presence of a UFO or shining object, well, then that can't be refuted."

VIDCAPS FROM GOBERNADOR UGARTE UFO SIGHTING

INEXPLICATA has just received the following report from our Argentinean correspondent Christián Quintero, co-director of the PlanetaUFO group.

"I wanted to remark that TV channel America 2 sent a camera crew to the site and around 4 a.m. were able to capture the lights reported by local residents."

"On this occasion, the lights emerged from a copse on the Esperanza ranch. It was in this field that a farmhand was startled by the lights of his pickup truck going on and off three times even though he was holding the key to the ignition in his hand. Several locals stated that the lights in their homes also go on and off on their own whenever UFOs are flying over the site.

"As a whole, people tend to see lights, white and with colors, but witnesses claim that when the objects diminsh their luminosity, it can be seen that they are in fact "dark" craft. The apparitions generally occur at night and are more numerous in the winter. Several locals and tourists have gone fishing in the local river -- Rio Salado-- and claim having been followed by "the lights". Locals add the interesting detail that when an airplane flies over the area, the lights immediately pursue it.

These are the vidcaps from the video shown on the America newscast: 1, 2, 3, 4

ARGENTINA: UFOs Reported in 25 de Mayo

Residents of the Buenos Aires community of Gobernador Ugarte, parish of Veinticinco de Mayo, claim having seen strange luminous flying objects in recent days.

Gobernador Ugarte, a village of 300 residents, is located on Route 51 between the cities of Chivilcoy and Veintinco de Mayo.

Hector Labaronne, a local resident who has filmed these apparitions for three years, explained that "they are like balls that wander and shed light. I call them mushrooms, and when its very cold they come down--it's possible to see them at 30-40 centimeters off the ground."

:"We're tired of seeing these balls of light. We'd like to see more, but when they're only 30-40 centimeters off the ground, we want to get closer and they move away," the man said.

He explained that the balls "are seen at different times, especially from 19:00 hours onward, and when the light they issue is turned off, something silvery can be seen, like a deep bowl."

The sightings apparently reocurred this weekend and even caused the lights of a truck on the La Esperanza ranch to come on by themselves, causing a farmhand to panic.

UFOs SEEN OVER 25 DE MAYO
**More sightings this weekend in Gobernador Ugarte***

the UFO phenomenon in the region of Gobernador Ugarte, parish of 25 de Mayo, is ongoing. Strange lights and maneuvers were reported this past weekend. One worker told the strange story of how the lights on his truck turned on and off by themselves as he stopped at a local ranch. Some residents say this is quite normal in the area while others express their fears.

LA MANANA spoke yesterday to Hector Labaronne, who has been filming UFOs for some three years now with his family. The "La Esperanza" ranch is where the greatest number of sightings and ground prints have been reported in recent times. This family possesses over five hours of video recordings of the lights and objects that appear in the night skies. The signficance of these events has led to the screening on August 16th at 20:00 hrs. in the Sala Pablo Picasso of Capital Federal (Buenos Aires) of a 90 minute video of the Ugarte sightings.

-- How long have you been recording UFOs?

More than three years now. The video to be shown in Buenos Aires is part of the five hours we've recorded. Almost all of the images are similar, except that some are on different days and nights.

-- How long since the last sighting?

We saw lights last night (Sunday), also on Saturday, and there are some things that occur that are beyond the norm. For example, last Friday, one of the rangers who lives in a shed had a strange experience. At around 1 a.m., he saw a light, went outside, and realized that his truck's lights were on. He went to turn them off, but noticed that the pickup truck's lights weren't on. The light went out in the meantime. He thought it could be a loose wire and went to bed again. About an hour later he woke up to find his lights were on. This happened four times successively. He didn't go out after that because he was scared. The next day he remarked about this event and some people told him that there are "flying saucers" in the skies over this area, or that strange lights are seen. He says that when he went to bed, he could feel as though someone was running at the edge of the shack. We still don't know what it is, but we're sure there's something to it. This happened at the "La Esperanza" ranch.

-- Are you accustomed to these strange happenings?

I see so many lights that we sometimes don't record them, because they look like the ones we already have. What I always want is to see what they are up close, which hasn't happened yet. The closest [they came] was 300 meters. The best days are when the sky is clear.

-- Do people come to see this phenomenon?

There are many people who come to see this phenomenon and keep doing it. We sometimes don't have any contact with them because they seek the other locations. We always go to the same ranch. The lights fly right over Ugarte--many people of that town are seeing them. Since it is a normal occurrence, no one pays them much attention. A low-flying red light 100 meters over Ugarte is a normal thing.

-- What time of year does this occur the most?

The colder it gets, the lower they fly. They can move some 30-40 centimeters over the ground. They don't leave traces. What we see are lights and sometimes a solid object behind them, like a suspended deep bowl. We've had them close, but when we get closer they move away--that happens always. They don't come over to where we are. They always avoid us.

-- Are all the sightings in this area similar?

Yes. Many people are afraid. Not me, because if they'd wanted to do something to us, they would've done it already.

-- What do you think about the presentation to be held in Buenos Aires?

It's great that this video should be presented in Capital Federal, since it has some very good images. This phenomenon is taking place everywhere. What happens here is that it occurs more often. I don't know why they like this place. People from Buenos Aires, La Plata, Cordoba-- everywhere, have come to Ugarte.

The words of Hector Labaronne reflect what this family has experienced in recent years along with other residents of Ugarte. As this newspaper reported a few days ago, major UFO researchers have visited Ugarte.

The Fundación Argentina de Ovnilogia (FAO) has performed studies in he area since July 4, 2002, when senior official Aragonés indicated that he had seen UFOs in the area. At this time the national media drew attention to the cattle mutilations taking place in different parts of the country, cases which also occurred in Ugarte.

Research and eyewitness accounts have revealed sightings in previous decades. In the 1950's, personnel from Estancia San Jose del Socorro reported the surprising appearance of several circular marks near a eucalyptus forest. In the summer of 1971, a 12 year old boy witnessed the low-altitude flight of a strange aerial artifact. In the mid 1990's a local resident claimed having been taken aboard a spacecraft, providing details of his experience and showing marks on his arms.

WILL UFOs BE VISIBLE IN SOUTHERN SALTA?

Hotels are booked and Police will undertake a security mission in the mountains

The chief of the Rosario de la Frontera Volunteer Fire Brigade, Jose Ezequiel Alvarez, confirmed yesterday that area residents may witness the movment of a UFO flotilla across the skies and stated that "the best places from which to view this shall be the mountains surrounding the Termas Hotel Complex."

Alvarez made his announcement in a special session on July 1st after having discussed a sighting with Sebastian Bidonda, a researcher of this subject, known to ufologists as "Alfabiondo", a contactee or a human who has telepathic communication with alien beings.

According to Alvarez, during his foray with Alfabidondo, the contactee concentrated and seconds later a formation of spaceships "commanded by Captain Kirian" who maintained a mental dialogue with the Jujuy resident, told him that "on the 23rd of this month residents of Rosario would have to prepare themselves for a fabulous sighting."

Beyond the excentricies of the story, residents of this locality are divided into skeptics and believers, reading themselves for a nocturnal vigil in the hills. Nothing else is being discussed in the streets today and hotels are virtually booked solid with the arrival of tourists from Tucuman, Catamarca, La Rioja, Santiago del Estero and Salta, eager to witness the promised phenomenon.

"People think I'm nuts when I say such things, but the fact is that I was there when Alfabiondo got in touch with Captain Kirian. I have seen the spaceships cross the skies over my head in one of the most marvelous spectacles I've ever beheld," said José Exequiel Alvarez.

Meanwhile, faced with popular expectations, the 31st Sheriff's Office of Rosario de la Frontera announced that it would carry out a "special control operation" on the hillsides. "We are interested in having people come in to see anything they hope to see, but we want to avoid tragedies arising from one reason or another," functionaries told El Tribuno.

THREE PROFESSIONAL PEOPLE SEE UFO

"It was gigantic, shining, noiseless and with portholes".

Three executives traveling from the capital city to Cachi last Sunday claimed having seen a giant UFO "some 100 meters in diameter, silent and luminous" in the vicinity of Cachipampa near the Los Cardones National Park, a mountainous, semi-desertic region some 120 km south of Salta. "It was a truly marvelous spectacle", said Susana Urdines, coordinator of the Virtual Distance Learning System of the Ministry of Education.

Urdines was traveling in the company of Federico Andolfi, a surgeon from the Vallisto Hospital and her colleague Mary Maigua. Both women were on their way to perform tasks related to their activities in the area and were being driven there by the physician, who had offered to do so. "The time was approximately 21:30, the night sky was clear when we saw the object," said Susana, who is a native of La Plata, although she has lived in the province for over a decade.

"I had always heard and read stories and accounts of UFOs seen by residents of Cachi, but never thought I'd have the good fortune to see something as beautiful as it was strange," she said. "It appeared all of a sudden and got in front of the car, although at a considerable distance. We weren't frightened, since at no time did we sense any agression or hostility coming from it. It was enormous and flashed without making a sound, had multicolored lights and gave the appearance of being circular, with portholes all around. The vision lasted for a few minutes, but enough for us to realize that it wasn't a natural luminous phenomenon, but a device built by someone. It vanished at startling speed and lost itself behind the eastern mountains."

However, the object reappeared a few kilometers ahead, when we were driving along the Tin Tin segment, before reaching Payogasta [Editor'snote: Tin Tin has been mentioned as a frequent UFO sighting spot since 2000]. It glided along as though suspended beside us and vanished into the firmament as it did before. After seeing that, I believe we have been privileged to have seen what we saw. Any trace of incredulity I may have had about UFOs in Cachi has been dispelled," said the functionary.

Cachi, at 19:30 hrs on Thursday
HUNDREDS WITNESS LARGE UFO
"It was perfectly plate-shaped", said the director of FM San José

Hundreds of people in Cachi's main square, among them artists participating in an art fair and were creating sculptures and paintings on site, saw a large unidentified flying object (UFO) that crossed the skies over Cachi on Thursday night.

"It was truly impressive. I'd heard people say that this phenomenon was recurrent in the region, but I never thought I'd have the privilege to see such a sharp, clear and disturbing sighting, since I'm unable to find a logical explanation for the phenomenon I've just seen with my own eyes," said Javier Rodriguez, the recently appointed director of FM San Jose.

Holding a degree in communication arts and national broadcasting, Rodriguez, 29, stated that "the time was approximately 19:30 hours and we were chatting in the town square with the host of one of the station's programs--Antonio Zuleta--who has become internationally famous due to his UFO films in the area."

"And we just happened to be discussing the subejct when an artisan standing under the shelter of the local museum, some meters away from us, told us he'd seen something, raising his index finger skyward," he says.

"It ws a fantastic vision: a perfect disk of bright luminous intensity, moving as it issued forth red flashes from North to Southeast at a prodigious speed, changing directions in a startling manner, gyrating at impossible angles for any vehicle known to us," explained the expert.

"From our position," Rodriguez added, "we can say that it had the size of a dessert plate. In other words, some 50 cm across, which makes me dismiss the possibility that it was a satellite, which are as small as a star and follow a fixed trajectory and constant spped. I cannot say, obviously, that it was a spacecraft from another world or from our own, but I can tell you that it was a phenomenon as inexplicable as it was interesting."

On the other hand, Antonio Zuleta, consulted by El Tribuno, said: "there were so many witnesses to the event that the debate about alien civilizations was a subject of lengthy discussions at coffeehouses, restaurants and other establishments in town, which is now filled with tourists, many hoping to have their own sighting."

Fortunately, it occurred at peak hours on an afternoon with a clear sky, as is customary [in Cachi]," he emphasized.

Legendary Corporal Armando Valdés: "Ufologists will be angry when I publish my book"
Diego Zúñiga

The man is preparing a bombastic book about his alleged UFO encounter on April 25, 1977. Title: "A la sombra de la verdad" (The Shadow of the Truth).

"Call me in an hour, buddy. I'm in a meeting," says Armando Valdés, perhaps foreseeing that he is going to be asked yet again about his experiences in Putre on April 25, 1977, when then-Army corporal Valdes and his seven conscripts saw two lights descend from the sky. Allegedly one of them lit up the surroundings and then made Valdes disappear for 15 minutes. Amid disputes between ufologists and skeptics over the existence of UFOs, Valdés prefers to say that he's engaged in a personal investigation to finally publish his book "A la sombra de la verdad" (The Shadow of the Truth).

-At least it's got a title...

-Yes, and it can't be changed. If they offered me a billion pesos I to change it, there wouldn't be a book. When you read it you'll realize that the secret is contained therein.

- When will it be out?

-I daren't say. There have been so many setbacks with this book that I don't want to give a date. One time it seems I made the wrong move and I erased it all.

Valdés remarks that after his experience "the Army ordered me to grant an interview to Pablo Honorato from Channel 13 and that's when they stuck me in this boat. If it hadn't been for that. I would've kept quiet."

-Have you read the things they've published about you?

-I have them in a briefcase with the newspapers and magazines I've been sent. I've laughed long and hard with some of those things.

-You said aliens had healed your daughter, didn't you?

-I never said that. I was misquoted. At that time there were many people pursuing me. My daughter had a serious illness and it was thought that the illness had to do witn my case, but these are things that people make up. I can't help it.

-But you can deny it.

-It's just that I'm not always given a chance. That's why I'm venting in my book. I'm going to discuss all of these subjects in it. All I can tell you is that ufologists will be angry when I publish my book and will surely say I changed my story."

-Many were annoyed when you said that you weren't abducted by aliens.

-But there was no abduction. There was something else, but it's not what ufologists say it was. I've solved my case.

-Give us a hint.

-It's complicated and there are things that must be read to be understood. You wouldn't understand them just like that. It's like my saying: "I love you" and you asking: "why do you love me?" There is so much to be explained.

-In other words, your case is like love.

-A little, I think. Some very strange things happened in my case.

ARTURO GOMEZ: "UFOs and Aliens are Chicanery with a Considerable Commercial Interest"
Fabián Llanca
Wednesday 7 July 2004

"There is much ignorance about natural phenomena. But there are people who do know and say nothing because it goes against their group," Gomez argues.

Specialist states that the Parque Forestal alien was a strategy to promote a UFO conference. Expert confirms Martians do not exist.

"Ufologists don't consult me anymore because they know that all phenomena have an explanation. They got bored with me," remarks Arturo Gomez, an astrophotographer with the Cerro Tololo observatory, regarding his relationship to UFO research groups.

His scientific soul -- with 35 years' experience under his belt -- keeps him from believeing in alien life and accuses alien fans of financial conniving. "In the case involving the photo of the Parke Forestal critter, for example, they were promoting a trip to Cajón del Maipo to see UFOs," he discloses.

Gomez assumes that Erick Martinez of the CIFA "put forth the half-camouflaged idea that it was an ET, an alien, a strange head, macrocephalous and a host of words he employs."

Are UFO and alien sightings pure chicanery?

Of course, chicanery with very strong commercial interests. There are many things taking place in Chile that aren't objective. Of course, there are all kinds of people.

Are you in contact with ufologists?

More then than now. The person who spearheaded the Parque Forestal critter incident was in my home to show me a film of some tourists traveling to the north. I told him: "I'm going to put this video on in front of us on the TV screen and I assure you that in two seconds I'll know what it is and I'll explain it to you." I put the video on, saw it, then turned off the TV set.

-But what was it?

The small contrail of a jet heading northward. The airliner's fuselage can't be seen because it's far away. A short contrail is visible. It's reddish because it occurred at sunset, just like the clouds acquire that tone during sunset. He was unconvinced.

How did he react?

He said no, of course. He even showed me some drawings of a flying saucer entering the atmosphere in a special way and producing a series of angular views. He has an active imagination. It's just that we see this everyday with commercial flights from the observatory, during sunset.

So, was the Punta Arenas sighting a fraud?

All of these things have a simple answer. What people undoubtedly saw was Venus' slow upward movment over five days, which is the product of Earth's rotation. Just like we see the sun emerging from the Cordillera.

Deception or ignorance?

Many people are ignorant about natural phenomena, but there are those who do know, and say nothing because it goes against their group. It's a deception. They know what it is, but they make believe they don't and [put forth the story] just like that.

In any event, ufologists have been officially acknowledged.

The mayor of La Serena, by a decree from our government, determined that her city should be the capital of Chilean Ufology. This would be like having NASA owning a store selling Omar Garate's eleven magical powers bracelet in the United States. I insist that this is a problem of education and knowledge.

Is there no room for doubt?

In my 35 years working at Tololo, all phenomena--even the wildest you can imagine--have had an explanation. When we have objective proof of somethin new and vital we will be the first to make it known and make the corresponding follow-up.

CURIOSITY OVER LIGHTS IN THE SKY

TICUL.The alleged lights that cross the skies over the Benito Juarez sector have been the subject of meetings and conversations among neighbors.

Some residents of Ticul believe they are Unidentified Flying Object and increasing numbers of locals are visiting the hills.

The appartions at midnight keep people awake to see "the lights that move and then remain still before continuing their journey." In the month of May, several residents claimed having seen UFOs over by Dzan, and some 3 or 4 years ago people ascended Santa Elena Hill for a better look.

UFO's: A Compulsory Subject of Conversation
More people visit a neighborhood to see "the lights"

TICUL. The subject of the alleged apparition of lights in the sky have been a compulsory subject of conversation among local relatives. Skeptics and believers alike are visiting this locale and some even think they could be UFOs.

The remarks made in the county seat have not delayed long, especially among people who visit the site and residents of the Benito Juarez sector itself, located on the hill and one of the most isolated ones in the community.

Witnesses report that shortly after midnight the lights begin to appear. At times, they can see a very large light that crosses the skies several times. At times they remain motionless before taking off at high speed, they say.

The widespread belief is that [the lights] are UFOs.

Residents of the Benito Juarez neighborhood claim that the lights began to appear the very same night the earthquake occured. Others believe that the phenomenon occurs on given years and are not limited to a certain part of the state.

According to the information provided, these lights were also seen some 2 or 3 years ago along the road leading to the municipality of Santa Elena. Furthermore, some five or six years ago, the same strange phenomenon was seen along the road to Sacalum.

The fact is that the unidentified lights are the topic of the day -- one that is gaining popularity among every stratum of this community. Night after night, between 150 to 200 people have been reporting to the Benito Juarez sector and claim that they have indeed seen these lights.

UFOs: A SUMMARY

Unidentified Flying Objects are the talk of the town in Ticul

28 years ago, the Central Intelligence Agency of the United States (CIA) recorded the manifestation of UFOs some 28 years ago in the skies over Merida, according to a recently declassified report by said agency.

In 1976, Robert S. Ashford, the U.S. consul in Merida, reported to the Department of State, and in turn, State apprised the CIA, of the apparition of UFOs in the sky.

Hundreds of persons visit the San Benito neighborhood on a daily basis for some 15 days, claiming to have seen UFOs. Visitors to the site are local residents who spend long hours gazing skyward and some claim having seen "a large saucer-shaped object with multicolored lights that moves across the sky at night."

The tenant farmers of the district leave their homes early in the morning to see the strange object. Given the curious nature of the event, increasing numbers of people have come to see this phenomenon, but very few have seen the flying object. Mrs. Maria Cardenas Ek and Lourdes Bojorquez claim having been witnesses to the event.

Mrs. Cardenas said that on Thursday, June 17, she was home when she noticed a shining object spinning around a tower belonging to the Federal Electric Commission. After a while it stood still in the air, and that was when the dogs began to bark.

The second time she saw it was around 1 a.m., when she saw the flying object in the skies again. Since that date, seeing this object at night has become a regular activity. The correspondent for the POR ESTO newspaper was on site for many hours to see if the object would manifest, but was unsuccessful. However, locals say that the UFO doesn't have a fixed schedule for its manifestations.

The fact of the matter is that expectations are on the increase among local residents on account of the strange lights in the sky, and the number of curiosity seekers is growing.

On Saturday and Sunday, members of the CAFE and SIRIO-MAYAB research groups visited Ticul. During their stay in this community, they were among the 150 to 200 witnesses to the phenomenon that occurred over this location.

Although Saturday (07/03) was somewhat overcast, hindering the visibility of any event, this was not the case on Sunday, which allowed for a ligth to be seen around 7:00 p.m. coming from the direction of a nearby radio mast. It first moved in a straight line and then descended somewhat before ascending again, all of this in a zig-zag motion, which dismissed any possibility that it was a satellite. A few seconds later, maybe 20, the object disappeared again but this time upward, as though leaving our atmosphere.

A video was taken of this event using a Sony Hi 8 Camera. The person who shot the event was Prof. Silvestre Leal Campos, director of the SIRIO-MAYAB group.

The parties to this research were: Arq. Jorge Castro Alejos.Prof. Silvestre Leal Campos

CHILE: HOME VIDEO CAPTURES STRANGE LIGHT IN PENALOLEN

Residents of Peñalolén also heard about strang flying objects yesterday. At first light, ChileVision Noticias presented a home video recorded Monday afternoon, showing an odd light glowing through the fog as it changed shapes. Ufologist Alberto Urquiza was one of the first to analyze the images. "To my understanding, based on a preliminary analysis, it appears to be the sun reflecting on a piece of glass, a glass roof or a sunscreen." In any event, the researcher said: "I am heading to the area to speak to witnesses and to make recordings by daylight, without the fog. Then we will be able to establish what was causing the reflection."

CHILE: MORE UFOs OVER PUNTA ARENAS

***Drivers halted their vehicles to get a better look at the phenomenon***
***Strange object paralyzed residents of Punta Arenas***
*** The object was seen at first light at Tres Puentes, to the north of the city***
***A colored sphere crossed the southern skies. Experts say it could be a planet or optical illusion***

A luminous sphere sailed slowly across the skies over Punta Arenas as it changed colors, bringing the capital city of the 12th Region to a standstill. Many drivers pulled over their vehicles to observe the strange phenomenon, resulting in traffic jams and causing people to be late to work. Others chose to climb nearby hills to get a better view.

Local radio station "Radio Polar" began getting calls from its listeners at around 6 a.m., reporting the strange unidentified object. Some even said the object had been visible for five days in a row. "A gentleman phoned in from Tres Puentes, in the north, saying that there was a light that shone intensely. This was the first call at aroung 6:30 a.m.. Then people kept calling," says Claudio Vidal. "People spent a long time watching the phenomenon. Folks working at the fisheries phoned in, and since they usually get home before dawn, they said that the light has been seen over that same area for five days straight," Vidal added.

"It's highly unusual," remakrs Alfredo Vera, Radio Polar's announcer. Vera was given the task of following the object and reported his experiences in three morning dispatches. He also managed to photograph the spehre from the Soñadores Lookout, where a large contingent of earlybirds had gathered to discuss the sighting. "The were startled, because the luminosity was quite intense and the object moved slowly. They said that it couldn't be something like Jupiter, which could be the nearest thing to it, "says Vera. The journalist added: "It didn't scare me, but I did get goosebumps, because it was very weird."

In order to worsen his doubts, the initial photos taken did not come out. "Out of 14 I managed to recover 4. It's remarkable that when I focus on the object, I see an image that resembles a chewing gum from a Christmas Tree, but then it fades and is replaced by a point of light. The photo shows a burning ball, something red, green, blue, " he explained.

Despite the sensation caused by this sighting, experts from the General Office of Civilian Aeronautics (DGAC) say it could be "a star or an optical phenomenon created by light refraction."

CHILE: UFOS Reported in Llay-Llay

The Center for the Study of Anomalous Aerial Phenomena (CEFAA) of the General Office of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC) shall study the strange aerial phenomenon reported at 7:20 a.m.

Several UFOs flew and executed pirouettes before daybreak yesterday some 60 kilometers northeast of Santiago, in the vicinity of Llay-Lkay and Las Chilcas, where they were photographs by Juan Serey, 37, who was driving a pickup truck toward the capital.

The witness told La Cuarta that he has spent 9 years driving the same route from the north along the highway on a weekly basis, and had never seen anything like this.

"It was incredible. I was driving southward when I suddenly noticed several powerful lights moving swiftly and hanging in the sky. It was spectacular," remarked the mechanical engineer. The phenomenon lasted approximately 10 minutes, which gave him enough time to whip out his Sony Cybershot 3.2 megapixel camera, using it to take several photos which are published in La Cuarta today.

"The lights were suspended some 50 meters over the mountaintop. A large light opened up and seven or ten would gather. They adopted various shape, fell out of order, would rearrange themselves together and then one of them took off skyward at a prodigious speed, zigzagging as it went, vanishing in a matter of seconds," said Juan, who shall be submitting the photos shortly to persons who study the subject.

CHILE: CEFAA Records 15 UFO Sightings

The Committee for the Study of Anomalous Aerial Phenomena (CEFAA, in Spanish) studies the experiences posed by civilian and military pilots. While they may not say so openly, perhaps so as not to create expectations or cause false alarms among the citizenry, the military authorities are disquieted by the subject. The fact is that the sightings recorded in the nation's skies, and particularly the Corporal Valdes case of 1977, are food for thought. For this reason, The General Office of Civilian Aeronautics created CEFAA, which is a dependency of the Technical Aeronautics School, directed by Hernan Henriquez Cobaise, acting as president, a secretary who is an air traffic controller, a public relations agent, a geophysicist, a computer consultant--all of whom are members of the DGAC and having responsibilities in other departments of the institution, and an external psychiatric advisor. The purpose of this committee is to compile, study, analyze and classify all information pertaining to the subject in order to determine--based on a serious and objective analysis--if the safety of aerial operations in the country has been jeopardized, and to further create a database that enables a characterization of the phenomena studied. It analyzes the elements obtained thus, as well as the tasks performed; it coordinates activities with external and internal advisors and--if no complementary information is available -- performs a final evaluation of the report.

Subsequently, film or photo evidence, whenever available, is forwarded to external consulting agencies such as USACH (Universidad Austral de Chile)'s School of Technology for a final computer analysis. "It was necessary to become involved in the subject to have as earnest a study as possible and offer explanations for the sightings," says Henriquez. His agency must study aerial phenomena reported by aircrews or aeronautical personnel in order to ascertain the degree to which these phenomena can affect navigation. "We are not focused on any study that departs from this mission."

SIGHTINGS

Since 1997 to date, there have been 15 anomalous phenomena recorded, which could be natural phenomena that produce a light or interference that can affect an aircraft's flight path. The cases recorded by CEFAA correspond to sightings. "Pilots who have seen UFOs making sudden movements, violent position changes and even approaches to the aircraft and lights of different kinds." There are pilots who have seen objects very close to them, but have been unable to define them in detail, only as general shapes. "These are close-up sightings that can even be worrisome, but whose true distance we have been unable to calculate."

All pilots are able to see clearly a distance of two miles -- in other words, to distinguish the type of aircraft and its colors. "We have details that have created great doubt. For example, the say three lights turning on and off, or were constant, but when we ask for details, we never seem to get any."

FORMATION

CEFAA's president points out that there are currently many phenomena which lack and explanation given our poor understanding of them, and which in the long run [causes people to say] an alien spacecraft was involved. "But this is not the case, because many observations identified as UFOs have been aerostats, sightings of stars or planets, and which have a logical explanation. There are, however, cases that have no explanation and are curious, but that is not going to make say outright that it was an alien spaceship." The air expert adds that this does not mean that life on other planets doesn't exist, but that there still isn't enough proof to ratify it.

CHILE: UFO SEEN OVER PUNTA ARENAS

***The Office of Aeronautics Claims Having No Indication That The Light Was an Airplane or Helicopter***

PUNTA ARENAS, june 29, 2004.- A strange luminous object was seen in the skies of the capital city of Chile's 12th Region, Punta Arenas. According to eyewitnesses, the Unidentified Flying Object frequented the skies of the city for five days, being seen in varios locations.

Radio Polar, the local radio station, had its telephone switchboard collapse due to the volume of calls received from witnesses to the phenomenon.

The Office of Aeronautics reported that it lacked official records on the strange luminous bolide, making it clear that it was neither an airplane nor a helicopter. They did not, however, confirm that it was a UFO.

Alfredo Vera, correspondent for Radio Polar, managed to take photos of the object from the Soñadores lookout over the city, where a large number of people had gathered to watch the strange object and its irregular movements, which were foreign to those of any known object.

It should be noted that the Magallanes Region and the city of Punta Arenas have been the site of important UFO-related events, the most significant being the one of June 1968, when two pilots of Aerolineas Argentinas witnessed a "flying saucer" over Punta Arenas. According to the pilots and 18 passengers aboard the plane, the object had the characteristics of a shiny red cylinder that moved swiftly, like nothing seen before. Likewise, incredible film footage was obtained in 2003 showing 3 UFOs separating and joining near a Chilean military base. This video was made known by AION's correspondent in the 12th Region, Carlos Munoz.

This sighting in Chile's southern regions can be added to others reported in the country in recent days, such as the one over the cities of Lanco and Petrohue on June 15, and the incredible Ovalle sighting on the 19th of this month.

CHILE: AN IMPRESSIVE UFO CAUSED ALARM IN OVALLE

A considerable number of locals witnessed one of the most significant sightings of recent times over the capital city of the province of Limarí, This event is a successor to the well-known and enigmatic case that occurred in 1998 over Las Mollacas in Paihuano.

OVALLE, June 25.- On Saturday, June 19, hundreds of people took to the streets of Ovalle to witness--in shock and expectation--a strange circle of lights positioned in the skies over the city.

The characteristics suggested the circle was at least 100 meters in diameter; it blinked and rotated uninterruptedly in the night sky.

Likewise, certain locations on the city's outskirts attracted large numbers of people who reported seeing the same thing. Radio station telephone switchboards did not stop receiving calls, creating a sense of alarm, even among those who had not left their homes.

"We received so many calls that we had to interrupt our regular programming and present a special on the subject, in order to offer an explanation about the phenomenon and provide answers to our listeners," said Carlos Ossandón, director of the Comunicativa FM radio station.

Comunicativa obtained its highest number of listeners in recent months on that evening. However, there are also witnesses who claim having seen strange lights on preceding days, which would suggest a small UFO wave in the skies over Ovalle.

Chile's 4th Region has been prolific when it comes to sightings of this kind. In November 1967, several fishermen witnessed a UFO engulfed in flames crashing into the sea off Peñuelas.More recently, another unidentified flying object collided against a hill in Paihuano before the startled gaze of several witnesses.
