A UFO REPORTED IN PASTO - NARINO
Experts at the Observatorio Astronomico of the Universidad de Nariño are analyzing the images they managed to take at a distance in excess of 500 kilometers and which appear to show an "unidentified flying object." This was confirmed to Caracol Radio by the director of the Pasto-based research facility, Alberto Quijano Vodniza, who explained that the UFO was photographed by one of the teams and remained within the atmosphere for one hour.
The astronomer noted that he doesn't dare suggest that the object is a spaceship from another galaxy, but it is a rather strange body that is not commonly seen. He added that the optical equipment will be in place again tonight in an effort to observe the phenomenon again, and the analysis shall be forwarded to an observatory in the United States.

Colombia: Images of Pasto UFO to be forwarded to NASA
Alberto Quijano, director of the Observatorio Astronomico de la Universidad de Narino, said that he will forward images of the unidentified object taken by his team to several NASA experts in an effort to discern its origin. In an interview with Caracol Radio, the astronomer said that object was definitively not a comet, because it did not follow a defined trajectory, and because no heavenly bodies of that type have been deteced in the area of the sky being studied.
Quijano indicated that the sequence of 400 photos taken of the UFO allowed him to ascertain its very strange behavior, as it remained practically motionless for an entire hour.
"It wasn't an airplane or a helicopter, because the telescope only permits the observation of objects that are far from the Earth's surface, and because the object had no motion for a long period of time," he explained.
The observatory' s director explained that when there is talk of an unidentified flying object, reference is not always being made to the extraterrestrial presence.
The 400 sequential images were placed into an hour-long video to be sent to distinguished astronomers all over the world in order to find an explanation for this phenomenon.

SPAIN: A Teleportation Incident in Galicia?

On May 7, 2007, Juan M.L. and Bernardo D.G. became the protagonists of a bizarre incident in the vicinity of Lugo. The events took place around 15:00 hours as they traveled in their car toward a sawmill located near the city. Apparently they were barely one kilometer from their destination at a location known as Piugos da Pena, and had just left behind a well-known automotive dealership, when the witnesses noticed a dense fog that appeared to emerge from their vehicle.
They pulled over on the shoulder to see what was going on. The smoke vanished. Only seconds after continuing their journey, they realized that they were in a completely different location from the one they had been before.
“We had no idea where we were,” said Juan. “We were only meters away from the sawmill and we suddenly found ourselves next to a road sign that read: “Santa Eulalia de Bóveda”. So, completely astonished, we decided to continue driving to Santa Eulalia to see if we could get to the sawmill from there.”
In the wink of an eye, they had traversed the 6 kilometers that separate the environs of the sawmill and the detour to Santa Eulalia de Bóveda. While they looked for the way back, both men witnessed an odd phenomenon: the Sun appeared to be right in the middle of a gigantic, smoky triangle.

CHILE: Southern Chilean Lake Evaporated by UFO?
This is the outlandish explanation considered in the Andean nation to account for the disappearance of a body of water. Experts in the field claim that "extraterrestrial" activity has been detected in the area.
The Chilean government is thoroughly astonished by an unusual situation in the world which had a powerful impact on public opinion in Argentina and Chile. For this reason, government authorities requested the aid of geologists to find out what happened to the lake, located in the Tempanos Fjord, located 2000 kilometers southeast of Santiago de Chile, in the Bernardo O'Higgins National Park. The lake's disappearance was discovered on May 27, 2007, but was only made known on Wednesday. Theories are now circulating everywhere that are unusual, whimsical and not at all serious. There are even "experts" who believe that the water's disappearance could have been the result of "UFO suction".
Chilean Ufologist Rodrigo Fuenzalida stated that the theory that suggests the presence of extraterrestrials at the nameless lake has grounds. "We have on record that certain UFOs draw water. There is a case in Lago Colbún that is supported by eyewitness accounts from Carabineros (state police) and civilians who saw something hover over the lake and extract water," he noted.
The expert added that "over 60% of all UFO sightings in Chile occur in this region.
Another theory - perhaps the most respectable - indicates that a huge crack caused the southern lake to empty its contents in a mater of water, allowing water to flow "to the center of the Earth", according to Chilean newspaper Las Ultimas Noticias.

CHILE: Early Theories Emerge Regarding Lake's Disappearance
Lacking even a name, the lake of the Tempano Fjord - located to the west of the Campo de Hielo Sur, in the Magallanes Region, achieved worldwide prominence once its volume of water disappeared altogether. CONAF is preparing an interdisciplinary expedition that promises to provide a more definitive answer to the curiosity that has emerged as a result of this incident. From the photographs, which have been seen all over the world, Sergio Sepulveda of the Department of Geology of the University of Chile, has also ventured a few hypotheses regarding the surprising disappearance of the water. He explains that the likeliest answer is a glacierology phenomenon, as this type of lake is enclosed by moraines (a kind of wall) that can be breached, resulting in a rather sudden outpouring of water, something like an alluvial torrent. Therefore, he notes that the disappearance of the southern lake is more likely associated to "some episode of a catastrophic, violent nature."

Chilean scientists are astonished after discovering and ascertaining that an unnamed lake with a surface area of 10 hectares, located in the southernmost area of Chile, mysteriously dried up in a month. Instead of water, experts found fragments of the glacier at the bottom of a dry lakebed criss-crossed by crevasses up 30 meters deep.
"We intend to travel to the site in coming hours with geologists and glacierologists to determine exactly what occurred. We are still astonished: the lake dried up at an extraordinary pace," said engineer Juan Jose Romero, one of the geologists of the Magallanes Region.
The lakes disappearance became known on May 27, but was only reported on Wednesday.
The authorities stated that the enormous lake, with its ice masses, vanished from one day to another, leaving in its place an enormous, 100-foot deep trench, also with ice masses, but deposited on dry soil, according to a director of the Corporacion Nacional Forestal (Conaf).
Hypothesis: Forestry authorities further noted that the lake wasn't all that vanished, but also the mighty river that emptied into the lake. It is now nothing more than a mere stream. "It can be crossed on foot," they say. The river was 130 feet wide and some three to four miles long.
Geologists must determine if the enormous volume of water filtered through the cracks that appeared in the trench.
Although no surface tests have been performed, geologists believe that the phenomenon is probably due to some underground plate movement that resulted in cavities through which all of the lake's water was evacuated.

Ufólogo puertorriqueño insiste en construir un "Ovnipuerto"
Ríos formó parte en 1978 del grupo llamado Estación Universo y desde entonces trabaja para construir un centro para el estudio de los fenómenos extraterrestres.
SAN JUAN, junio 13.- El ufólogo Reinaldo Ríos está empeñado en construir un "ovnipuerto" en Puerto Rico, vértice del "Triángulo de las Bermudas" que cuenta ya con el mayor radiotelescopio del mundo para la búsqueda de inteligencia extraterrestre.
Ríos formó parte en 1978 del grupo llamado Estación Universo, que reunía a personas que supuestamente habían sido "contactadas" por seres extraterrestres, y desde entonces trabaja para construir un centro para el estudio de los fenómenos extraterrestres que tenga, incluso, pistas de aterrizaje para OVNIS.
En 1993 comenzó a realizar "campamentos OVNI" mensuales en los que convoca a curiosos y expertos de Puerto Rico y otros países a realizar "vigilias públicas" para registrar con cámaras de fotografía y video posibles apariciones de objetos voladores extraños.
En 2005, Marcos Irizarry, alcalde de Lajas, municipio suroccidental de Puerto Rico donde Ríos asegura que se producen anualmente entre 30 y 40 avistamientos de Objetos Volantes No Identificados (OVNIS) firmó una proclama para declarar el 24 de junio como el Día Nacional para la Investigación de OVNIS.
El terreno donde Ríos espera construir el "Ovnipuerto", que necesitaría de una gran inversión de entidades públicas y privadas, cuenta con un cartel que señala la "Ruta Extraterrestre" del mismo modo que en Roswell, (Nuevo México, EE.UU.), hay uno que dice "Carretera extraterrestre".
Ríos explicó a Efe que si en Roswell, comunidad que considera "hermana" donde en 1947 habría caído un OVNI, la legislatura municipal ha dedicado 245.000 dólares para comenzar a construir un parque temático, en Puerto Rico "la opinión pública está dividida" sobre invertir en un "Ovnipuerto".
Ríos, quien sueña con que un día un OVNI se pose sobre la Sierra Bermeja de Lajas, se considera un visionario del mismo modo que "Julio Verne se imaginó los submarinos antes de existir".
Profesor de matemáticas de profesión, el ufólogo insiste en que "hay mucha gente que tiene experiencias individuales (con OVNIS) y no las reportan", y recordó un caso que en 1997 alarmó a la población.
En aquel momento, en varias poblaciones cercanas se vieran varios objetos volantes zigzaguear, se interrumpió la emisión de la cadena local de radio "WBVB" y se produjo un incendio donde ahora pretende construir las pistas de aterrizaje y las autoridades federales impidieron el paso a los policías estatales.
"El misterio se agudiza cuando en la madrugada personas que quieren llegar al área ven a otras personas vestidas de negro", indicó Ríos haciendo referencia a un supuesto cuerpo secreto del gobierno federal encargado de los extraterrestres como aparecen en "comics" y en la saga de películas "Men in Black".
Para los físicos puertorriqueños Joaquín Medín y Rafael Muller, no hay evidencia científica de que se hayan visto OVNIS en Puerto Rico y señalan que muchas veces la gente identifica "relámpagos globulares" que asumen la forma de platillos voladores con luces y movimientos similares a los OVNIS.
Fotografías de aparentes platillos voladores pueden ser producidas por una cámara si se deja el lente abierto por una hora frente a la luna, explican.
Por su parte, Ríos insiste en que el hecho de que se produzcan un alto número de avistamientos en la zona de Lajas se podría deber a que debajo "hay una base subterránea de estos seres", y que por eso el gobierno federal habría instalado allí un aerostato.
La presencia de OVNIS en la región, que diferentes alcaldes han pedido a la Casa Blanca que sea investigada a lo largo de los años, ha estado también relacionada con el llamado "Triángulo de las Bermudas".
Desde 1945, con la desaparición frente a las costas de Florida de la llamada "Patrulla perdida", se ha propagado la leyenda de misteriosas desapariciones que se producen en el triángulo que forman Miami, Bermudas y Puerto Rico.
Las teorías esgrimidas por los amantes de los misterios señalan que en el "Triángulo de las Bermudas" se producen desapariciones de buques y aviones, trastornos de la radio y de los campos magnéticos que se han llegado a atribuir a supuestos OVNIS.
Por otra parte, en el Observatorio de Arecibo (norte), que cuenta con el mayor radiotelescopio del mundo, científicos del Proyecto SETI (Search for ExtraTerrestrial Intelligence) tratan de descubrir desde hace más de 30 años si existe vida inteligente fuera del planeta.

Mexico: Airliner Personnel Sees Spherical UFO
**A report from Ana Luisa Cid**
According to a report from researcher Alfonso Salazar, the crew of Flight 735 saw a spherical UFO entering and exiting a cloud on Monday, June 11, 2007.
The sighting took place at 1500 hours when the Boeing 737-500 (registration XA-MAA) was flying through the air corridor at an altitude of 10,000 meters heading for Mexico City from the city of Huatulco in Oaxaca.
Captain Edwing Adame Cuevas, the first officer, was the first to notice the object, and in turn informed flight captain Hector Coss and mechanic Emmanuel Esquivel of the sighting.
Mr. Esquivel was able to see the UFO, but the commander, who was reading the instrument panels, did not.
Witnesses describe the object as a sphere with a metallic appearance and did not consent to releasing the airline's name.

CHILE: Possible UFO Detected over the Cordillera
Felix Reales Vilca, a correspondent for Chilevision and TVN, recorded an unidentified flying object with his camcorder over the mining region of Dona Ines de Collahuasi. The video was taken while the newsman was at an elevation 3400 meters and 800 meters over the surface.
In the sky, in broad daylight and in the vicinity of the Urruputuncu Volcano, he managed to see a multicolored light that moved to and fro. He was standing with a group of miners, who were shocked by the sight. All indicated that it was an unidentified flying object, as the zone is not a route employed by airliners.
Reales turned the images over to TVN to have them examined by specialists in order to ascertain or dismiss the likelihood of the object being a UFO.
Reales explained that "he was engaged in recording work at the mining operations when the miners told me that there was a UFO. It could be clearly seen, but through the camera I could see that it was a powerful, multicolored light and we were facing an unidentified flying object."

Objeto no identificado en el Bosque Nacional "El Yunque"
Saludos a todos, aquí les envio una foto tomada por la Sra. Carmen Martínez Colón residente del pueblo de Fajardo, La foto fue tomada por casualidad según nos explica ella en la entrevista que se le hizo a esta, ella estaba visitando el Bosque Nacional "El Yunque" Bosque se encuentra al Este de la Isla de Puerto Rico con un grupo de amistades, y cuando se disponian salir del lugar donde se encontraban le dio por tomar varias fotos hacia las montañas del bosque, esta nunca se percato de presencia alguna en la montaña y mucho menos pasando, cuando ella le dio por verificar la fotos tomadas en su cámara digital se dio cuenta de una mancha obscura en la foto en la zona alta de la montaña, ella nos contacta y nos muestra la foto y nos dio permiso para analizar la misma y nos permitio publicarla en cualquier medio.
La Cámara digital que uso fue una FINE PIX A700 FUJI FILM 7.3 MEGA PIXELES.

ARGENTINA: UFO Seen Over Tucumán
* Several witnesses were treated to the sight of strange lights. "It moved slowly and suddenly made a turn, making a rapid course change," said a local resident.
* Strange lights were seen last night over the [provincial] capital, said numerous witnesses who contacted this paper's newsroom. The incident occured at approximately 21:30 hours.
It has not been possible to determine the origin of the Unidentified Flying Object (UFO) up to now, although various informants agreed in their stories about what they were able to see. "My mother saw a white, somewhat dim light that made a rapid turn and changed course swiftly," said a resident of Yerba Buena.
Non-official sources told LA GACETA On Line that airport records do not show any flights over the skies of Tucumán at that time, with the exception of a landing by Austral AU2470, although the flight did not pass over the capital.
Another witness noted that the had seen an unidentified flying object "that moved in an irregular maner" and then disappeared.

It is public knowledge that heavenly bolides have been seen in concomitance with alleged UFO sightings. It is precisely that the print and television media - the latter with images - have turned it into a concern at the level of society as a whole, beyond the strictly ufological thinking of a handful of people who have made known their public and personal commitment to making case histories known. My intention here is to compile information aimed at covering a broader spectrum of the events recorded with these mass sightings, and my commitment is to retell specific events in areas to which I have access to investigate.
Mario Navarro, an employee at the Colón terminal, told me about his concern at seeing - in the company of his brother - a light in the island area facing the Port of Colón on Tuesday May 22 (2007) around 20:00 hours. He was able to see a light, first as a distant luminous point similar to a flashlight, but it was a powerful point that varied in size according to its intensity with regard to an imaginary central dot. They could also see that it traveled at a prodigious rate of speed, noting that what they were seeing was probably occurring in the mainland territory of the Republic of Uruguay, beyond the islands. Using the shadow of the treetops of a eucalyptus plantation in the horizon as a point of reference, they realized that the light suddenly began rising toward the treetops, and that its brilliance magnified at that time, exceeding the 12 meter height of the trees in that plantation, with a size comparable to that of the moon when it appears on the horizon. Its color ranged from intense blue at its core, expanding to white in its periphery. The total observation lasted 20 minutes. After that time, says Mario Daniel Navarro: "...it sort of turned off. Everything was left dark again..."
This isn't the first time that this phenomenon has occurred toward the islands and one Uruguayan territory in that direction. Other eyewitness accounts are completely related to this one, with witnesses describing similar manifestations.

Last night on the ENIGMA VIRTUAL program hosted by Julio Degeneve on FM Melody 103.5, transmitted Thursdays at 22:00 hrs., Ramon Morgante, a UFO researcher who lives in the city of Gualeguay, Entre Rios, told listeners that: "...only a moments ago, around 19:25 hours, I was able to see and record a luminous object crossing the skies at high speed in a southeasterly direction from the city of Gualeguay. The object was moving from north to south at more or less 20 degrees toward the horizon. At that trajectory, and at 80 degrees, from my standpoint, the object incredibly changed course toward the east. It looked like a bluish-to-white sphere, like the flame of a kitchen burner. At that time several [objects] of this type began to appear from various directions and toward the same side. I was able to see a total of nine unidentified luminous objects with characteristics identical to the first one. I became aware, during these sightings, of what seemed to me a large star with an intensity comparable to that of Rigel, located 85 degrees to the south. It's color varied between orange to dark red. My surprise was that when I aimed the camera in that direction in order to record it, the alleged star turned off. It simply was no longer there..." Ramón also motioned that the observation lasted until 21:40 hours, approximately, including Flash-type phenomena. The entire observation was documented with a video camera.

ARGENTINA: BOLIDE OVER RIO CUARTO
Residents of Cordoba and Santa Fe claim to have seen, around 7 pm, "an enormous object in the sky" similar to "a blue and green ball" which drew the attenton of hundreds of perople who contacted the media to report the phenomenon.
"I did not see the object but it was without any doubt a bolide that entered the atmosphere and disintegrated. This is very common. They are highly brilliant and can be seen even in the daylight," said Jorge Koglan of the Liga de Astronomia. According to Koglan, this would have been "interplanetary material that hit the ground head-on. It must've occurred very high up, which accounts for its visibility in various locations. The greenish hue is associated with its components."
Moreover, Mariano Ribas, coordinator of the Planetarium' s astronomy section, explained that "apparently what people saw was a small meteorite that entered the atmosphere at ful speed. It was a flash of lights and colors at high speed. All of this indicates that it was destroyed in the air. In any event a small fragment may have impacted the ground somewhere. The type of report indicates that it was a meteorite."
Astronomer Juan Puerta of the Cordoba Observatory said that "he saw a brightness, but it was fleeting," adding that when he heard the reports, he realized that it was a heavenly phenomenon. "It could have been a meteor shower" adding that the main day for the meteorite shower may May 4th. He noted, howevere, that the phenomenon could have extended beyond that date.
Ariel Perez, a resident of the city of Rosario, said that at 7:05 pm the backyard was lit with an intense blue light. He looked upward and saw that there was a line[in the sky] with a brownish color. The phenomenon lasted between 4 and 5 seconds.

The Brazilian UFO Magazine was launched in 1984 by the Brazilian Center for Flying Saucer Research (CBPDV) and is of the oldest publications about the UFO Phenomena in the world. It is now in the edition # 135. In 1986, a second series called UFO Magazine Special was released and is presently at edition # 54. Both publications circulate in Brazil, Portugal, all Portuguese speaking countries and some nations of South and Central America. The regular and the special editions are published monthly.

MEXICO: Former President's Nephew Photographed UFO in 1973

In March 2007 I received several clippings from the "Novedades" newspaper, dated October 26, 1973, from Ing. Hector Pérez Rodríguez, making reference to a sighting by Mr. Juan David Mateos Chanfreau, the nephew of (deceased) former Mexican president Lic. Adolfo Lopez Mateos.
According to the publication, the witness gave his story to the press and provided them with a copy of the photo he took with his Polaroid camera. The snapshot was taken while he travelled aboard his car along the road from Ciudad Camargo to Chihuahua (1973).
Ing. Pérez, who kindly provided me a copy of the clippings he has kept for 30 years, believes that it is possible that Mr. Mateos Chanfreau's experience is possibly related to the Coyame Case, which occurred in the same geographic region and on a date relatively close to that of the alleged crash of a spacecraft in the Chihuahua desert (1974).
In another news item from "Novedades" it is said that six UFOs were seen in the USA, witnessed by over 50 people, among them then-deputy sheriff Jim Taylor of Surrey County.

"Mexican Tells How He Saw and Photographed a Flying Saucer"
The existence of flying saucers no longer appears to be a mere invention of people with excessive imagination or feverish minds. When mechanical means - such as photography - are brought into play to determine their reality, only one question remains: where do they come from?
Juan David Mateos Chanfreau, nephew of the deceased former president Adolfo Lopez mateos, has asked himself this question in vain for two months. But the issue of their provenance is secondary, because there is something more important: he knows that they exist, he has seen one of them and has photographed it.
The account he gives NOVEDADES shows the emotion the event produced in him; his satisfaction at the experience surpasses all limits.
Juan David was traveling from Ciudad Camargo to Chihuahua a little over 60 days ago. The day was somewhat hazy but precisely due to the lack of solar reflection, the landscape was clear and placid.
Upon reaching the desert area between Villanueva and the city of Chihuahua, he began to hear a strange sound coming from his car radio. He suddenly looked upward and saw an object suspended in mid-air.
He hit the brakes at once. He was invaded by a stupor and cannot remember if he turned off the radio, but he fully recalls the rigidity that took over his limbs for some seconds. He was afraid that something bad would happen to him. However, curiosity won out over prudence and his arm, guided as if by an electric shock, reached for the glove comaprtment where his photo camera rested.
"Before taking it, I had the sensation that someone was keeping me from doing so," he says, "and I grabbed it cautiosly. I felt afraid again, but the anxiety of having proof of what I was seeing won out, and I stepped out of the car."
The craft, which produced a very slight vibration, rotated displaying its colors of orange, purple and red. Parapeted behing his vehicle, he was about to press the shutter. The artifact, which was to the right of the highway at a distance of some 60 meters and an altitude of 20, did not move. And the photo was taken.
He immediately felt the urge to flee, but some internal sense advised him not to move. Some minutes went by, which seemed like centuries to Juan David. Suddenly the craft began to move. Rising, it tilted until it remained sideways, rising vertically, and taking off at a fantastic speed. He saw no smoke; he was only able to hear an intense vibration that became more painful as the intensity grew. The metal turned into a multitude of dats that rose, blinding his riveted eyes. In a matter of seconds, the saucer was lost to the immensity of space.
Reality took hold and thosands of questions spilled into his mind: where did it come from? Was it terrestrial or not? But among the lack of answers there stood an unquestionable fact: something remarkable had happened and none other than he had witnessed and photographed it. The amazement of the event would suffice - perhaps some day he would find out the rest.

ARGENTINA: Astonishing UFO Event in Victoria (Entre Rios)

Once more, Victoria has astonished us like in the good old days: the event witnessed last night, April 29, 2007, continues to amaze us, showing that there are manifestations occurring in this place that are not properly discussed elswhwere, neither in Argentina nor in the world at large.
We headed toward Cerro La Matanza with Walter Vergara, a member of our team, his girlfriend Georgina, Sebastian, a boy who helps me as an assistant in the UFO museum, and the undersigned. It was a lovely, starry night.
At 20:30 hours, we began to see a bright light with many smaller lights in a circular arrangement hovering over the river (which was quite full, owing to the latest surge, penetrating into the depths of the mountainside) and close to its banks. We used binoculars for this observation, trying to find something that would give us a clue as to its nature, as it was in that location, in spite of being flooded, there was no chance that it could be a vessel. Suddenly, the lights -- or some internal element belonging to them -- began to make tremendous flashes in every direction. One of them was so powerful that it turned night into day. At that moment, a white sphere appeared overhead, its size larger than the full moon, leaving in its wake a sort of short corridor -- a white wake that ended close to where the lights above the river were located.
Everything took place so quickly that we were stunned, unsure as how to react. These lights above the water remained in place until 21:05 hours and suddenly turned off as one, showing us that they represented a single structure, and despite the full moon and the use of binoculars, we were unable to see anything at the site.
A few minutes later, at the same site but slightly over to the left, two closely joined lights emerged. They remained motionless until the time that we decided to head home. But to shake us even further, that wasn't all that occurred that evening.
At 21:35 hours, we saw two airliners heading south from a northerly direction, one of them flying slightly higher than the other. At the same time, another flight was coming in from the opposite direction, flying higher than the other two. We all thought that these were three simultaneous flights. Imagine our surprise when the airliner heading south, and the one flying lower than the other (apparently) , exchanged signals with impressive lights, as though greeting each other. We soon became aware of what was going on. The other airliner heading north began to light up in such a way that there was no doubt at all that it was a mustard-colored UFO. After displaying its presence, it vanished and nothing further could be seen.
As I said, it had been a long time since I had such an experience. We will try to learn what flights passed over the area at that time, and as we have done before, will try make inquiries about their pilots.

CHILE: A UFO Lands on the Shores of San Antonio?
Around 19:45 hours last Friday (May 4) when a considerable number of households gather around the TV set to watch their favorite shows, some residents of the town of Albatros, Algarrobo Commune, became aware of an unidentified flying object that was clearly visible in the sky.
Despite the penetrating cold of that evening, a bright flash of light that shifted colors momentarily drew the attention of some curious onlookers who went out to the street to notice the details of the heavenly spectacle.
The strange luminous object hovered above the forest near the town, giving the appearance of being near El Canelo beach, in the commune's northern section.
Not a few spectators reached for the photo and video cameras to capture the unusual phenomenon, which gave rise to a wealth of speculation regarding the unknown object's provenance.
Its unusual motion in all direction caused spectators to promptly dismiss the possibility that it could be an airplane, aerostat, satellite or other aerial phenomenon with a rational explanation. A family on Los Pelicanos street watched the light's appearance intently. The impact of their sighting was so strong that they contacted duty personnel at the Third Carabineros Office in Alagarrobo, who reported to the scene. Local policemen also reported what they saw.
Nataly Aranda, 20, in the company of her brother Matias,9, remember the sighting: "It was like looking at a star, but it would suddenly vanish and reappear. A neighbor recorded it, and when we saw it on the TV set, it looked just like when they show UFOs on television-- it was super real."
She added that the object remained suspended in the sky for about an hour. "After that, it began to go away and the person who videotaped it asked a friend to go over to El Canelo to film it, as it vanished in that direction. Over here we could see it almost over the trees."
This was the first time she had faced a phenomenon of this type, like young Matias, who was stunned by the display. "It was a ball that moved everywhere. I was a little bit scared because they told me it was coming to get me. When it vanished [I had the impression] something fell out of it. It also reappeared on Monday, but it was sort of red," remarked the student from the Carlos Alessandri school.
Although she doesn't acknowledge the existence of UFOs, the young woman from Algarrobos says that what she saw that night "was food for thought."
Second Sergeant Nelson Velazquez reported to ascertain the events in the light of insistent phone calls from local residents. "The fact is that a person from Albatros called me, saying that he had seen an unidentified flying object in the air. I reported to the scene and ascertained that there was indeed such an object. Also present was a young man who videotaped on the site for over half an hour. I later withdrew and advised my colleagues at the station. One of them (Carabinero Alvarado) proceeded to make his own recording of the flying object from El Pejerrey beach.
In the policeman's opinion, what he saw that cold evening was a sort of "luminous ball that flew in every direction, from north to south. Apparently it was not a star, airplane or any other thing, as it lacked those characteristics. It makes one think that it could've been a UFO."
The experienced police officer remarked that in all his years of service in the area, this was the first time he had witnessed a case like this. Something he will not forget during his patrols throughout the Commune.
However, doubts persist, as the Direccion Aeronautica de Santo Domingo reported that weather balloons are launched at that time, and their movement is dependent on wind conditions.What is clear is that no known object performs the movements witnessed by a large number of witnesses.
