I'm looking into getting a RWS 40 .22 model and adding a BSA 3-12x50 scope to it with B-Square 50mm+ mounts onto it. Does anyone have any experience with this gun or own one? I've already gone through 2 diffective Beeman GS950s and an just looking for something a bit different. Help greatly appreciated.

 Tieval,

I am suprised to hear that you had TWO bad Beeman GS 950s! I thought they were the firsr flagship of that line untill the GS 1000 came along. Out of curiosity, what were the defects?

I have always been intrested in the Spanish guns. Back in the 70's Gamo really made some good .22's, then the corperate Lawyers stepped in and the Gamo situation (no parts sales) occured and stands today. Cometa is an old company, it's products show innovation, pretty good Q/C and lend themselves to tuning well.  Nordica did pretty much like Cometa, and kept a low profile here in the US, but quietlly made sub-contracted guns for Beeman for many years.

It seems that only Gamo ventured into setting up a intracate worldwide sales network, and I know they have profiteed well from it!

Sorry, I do not have any experience with the new Model 40. Like you, I read the spec's and they look as impressive as the rifle does!

The first Gs950 messed up on the 3rd shot. It looked like it had a bad lever, the one connecting the moving barrel to the spring. It bent and from then on out it made the worst noise and you could see the pelet as soon as it came out of the barrel. It was cool though. The 2nd one I had for 32 days. The cocking mechanism jammed so I couldn't even cock the barrel, it was stuck. Plus the barrel wouldn't lock into place firmly, it was loose. Kind of wierd. I got those at Walmat. I went down to check out what else they had, to look at some Gamos and nothing really compared to the Beemans.

It is the same action as the models 34 and 36..

with a different stock. This is a personal preferance thing, but I feel a 40mm scope with lower rings would work out far better on this rifle. The 50mm combo that you mentioned would be awfully high.

Got the gun

Got the gun but the dealer put a lower mount on the gun. Just a high mount with the awesome 50mm scope. It is the most accurate gun I have shot so far. I'm impressed. Put 300 shots through it so far. The hight of the mount is actually in the middle for adjusting your head on the butt of the gun.

You have the RWS 40?

February 26 2006, 12:20 PM

Man I just put some questions on the forum about this gun. Bet you can answer all my questions on the 40. If you check the forum or get this mail I would appreciate some correspondence. Our computer is half crazy sometimes but is working now (2/26/06). Really need a <30lb cocking force gun for my Dad and am betting this unit is in at >30 lbs., but any help is appreciated. Also need around 1" groups at 25 yds. Thanks David
