Ordered it in .177 from D&L today. I read through all the posts I could find on this forum about the pistol and I found alot of usefull info. D&L advertize the P5 Magnum at 500fps in .177 and 430 in .22, this is from what I can gather a reasonable expectation of the gun. I had my heart set on a .22 but opted for the flatter shooting .177 just to get a little more range out of it. It will probably be used mainly for paper punching and maybe the odd sparrow or gopher with good shot placement.
I'm very excited to try it, any advice on pellet preference or tuning tricks are appritiated. Thanks, Mulby.

I get beautiful accuracy out of my .177 P5M at ~90-95 yards. Great paper punching pistol- the range from this pistol will surprise you.. At closer ranges it is not shabby for smaller varmits, and I use heavy meisterkugels. I would be interested to know what you shoot and what sort of results you get. I know the MK's are a bit heavy, but I bought a case of them and was looking for a nice "all around" pellet for my 350, 48, 24 and P5. I would expect better performance at farther ranges in the varmit department from maybe a RWS hobby or somthing lighter, but even though it is a bit heavy I havent been disappointed with the yellow MK's in my P5. Remember to watch the screws that hold the grip onto the frame of the pistol.. mine wiggled loose as well as the screw that holds the barrel to the body of the pistol. The trigger on these guns is excellent- both stages adjustable. It is "jumpy" in a funny way but once your hand learns the right hold, its a really fun pistol. Took me a while to get used to, but now I wouldn't trade mine for any other. Cocking it is a trick- hint: break it, hold the barrel weight still and move the body of the pistol forward and it is a lot easier.. I have spent many amusing hours watching grown adults struggle to cock this little pistol, but it is really easy if you spend the time to "get" the trick to it

Thanks for the pointers...

It should be here around the first week of January, depending on how nuts the Post is. I'm really excited to try this gun, I have a Webley Hurricane and it is a trick bag all it's own, figuring out how to properly cock and fire the pistol accurately was a little challenging but with practice it's now second nature. I've got a pretty broad range of pellets to try in it wieghing in from 7.3gr all the way up to 9.5grSupermags, although there obviously to heavy. I'm hoping that it likes the JSB Exact's, I've shot a few in .22 and .177cal through all my pistols and rifles and had good success in both springers and pneumatics. I'll have to messure my pistol case to make sure it can hold it's 18 inch length! Good shooting, Mulby.

Well,

April 28 2005, 5:56 PM

since this thread has been brought back to the top, I figured I would let everyone know that I have really been enjoying my P5. The break-in period was rather long and quite a few hundred rounds were shot through it before it really settled down. But once it did smooth out I found it to be a very accurate and powerfull pistol. The JSB's did in fact turn out to be the most accurate pellet for this gun as I expected they would be. I've been out a few times with it and my other airguns, and whacking pop cans from 40yds with it is a blast. Mulby
